Picks and Predictions for EPL Games on Sunday, May 22

This weekend is your last chance to do some Premier League betting until August. It’s because Sunday, May 22 is the EPL final day.

All 20 teams will get onto the field in Round 38 that will bring us answers to questions like:

As there’s so much at stake this Sunday, I had no other choice but to analyze all ten games and share my Premier League predictions and picks with you. Let’s start this EPL betting preview by checking out what the online sportsbooks think is going to happen in Gameweek 38.

Betway is the online bookmaker whose odds I used in the list below. If you take a look at them, you’ll spot a pattern – teams that need a win on the final day of the Prem are seen as favorites.

Manchester City and Liverpool, the teams that need it the most come with the shortest odds. Just behind them is Chelsea, the club that needs a win to stay in the #3 position. It’s a similar story when it comes to Tottenham and Arsenal, the teams contesting for the #4 spot. The only other team that’s seen as an odds-on favorite is Leicester City.

For most teams, there’s no room for mistakes in the Premier League final round. With everyone giving all they got, it’s likely the player quality will be the decisive factor in Sunday’s games.

Still, that’s just one of the factors that will play a role on the EPL final day. Fan support, motivation, form, injury news – these are some of the other things you need to factor in before making any Premier League predictions.

To help you out, I’m now going to analyze the games played on May 22, starting with the one that will decide the Premier League winner.

Catastrophe – I think this word best describes the scenario in which Manchester City doesn’t win on Sunday. Pep Guardiola’s men just have to beat Aston Villa; otherwise, they’d (probably) lose the title.

Oddsmakers, however, don’t seem to doubt the Sky Blues. Judging by the odds of just 1.17, they are certain Manchester City will win the English top flight for the eighth time in the club history.

Other reasons why the Sky Blues are expected to win include the fact that Sunday’s game is played on their turf. At Etihad Stadium, they are 14-2-2 this season in the Prem, with three big wins in the previous three rounds.

Further, the Citizens also have a fantastic record against Aston Villa, having won nine of their previous ten duels. Speaking of Aston Villa, this team doesn’t have too much to lose/gain on the EPL final day. In fact, in the best-case scenario, they would move to the #10 position. The worst-case scenario doesn’t exist for this team – whatever happens on Sunday, they’re not going to drop below the #15 position.

This, however, doesn’t mean the Villans don’t have any motivation coming to Etihad Stadium. Well, one guy certainly has. Steven Gerrard is the man I’m alluding to.

He would love to mess up Man City’s plans as it would mean bringing Liverpool the title. As a reminder, the current Aston Villa coach is a symbol of Liverpool FC, whose captain he was for several years in the 2010s.

Prediction: Manchester City to Win

Beating Wolves is a must for Liverpool. Only if they win will they have a chance to capitalize on any potential slip-up by Manchester City.

Beating Wolves for the seventh time in a row shouldn’t be much of a problem for Jurgen Klopp’s team, even though they’re going to miss a couple of key players in the final game – Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk among others.

They shouldn’t worry as they got plenty of amazing players who have the skills to outplay the out-of-form Wolves (zero wins in the past six EPL rounds).

If Liverpool win their final league game of the season, they will be on 92 points.

Liverpool’s form has been a total opposite of Wolves’. The boys in the red jersey have been fabulous since the start of 2022 winning 15 EPL games and drawing just three, without any losses.

They’ve been great in other competitions as well, winning the Carabao Cup, as well as the FA Cup. Plus, they also have a chance to win the Champions League. Just six days after the end of the Premier League, they travel to Paris to play against Real Madrid in the UCL Final.

Prediction: Liverpool to Win

The relegation battle in the Premier League is led between Burnley and Leeds. Ahead of the 38^th round, both teams have 35 points, but Burney has a (much) better score differential than Leeds.

Burnley’s Premier League future is in its players’ hands. If they beat Newcastle, they will stay up. If they don’t win, their destiny will be decided by what happens in the Brentford vs. Leeds game.

So, will the Clarets win on Sunday? It’s not going to be easy against in-form Newcastle, but I think they can pull it off.

Prediction: Burnley to Win

The Bees from Brentford have already achieved their goal for their first Premier League season in the history of the club – they’re going to stay in the league for at least another season.

Not only did they manage to stay in the league but they’re going to finish much higher in the standings that what many anticipated.

That said, they will probably have a lot of motivation on Sunday. Then again, so will Leeds players. Anything but a win would automatically mean getting relegated to the Championship. The problem is that this team isn’t used to winning – they are without a win in the Premier League in the past five rounds.

Prediction: Brentford to Win

With a win over the worst Premier League team, Tottenham would secure a top 4 finish. I think they’re going to do it.

I also think Arsenal will beat Everton despite the fact that the Gunners are in a poor run at the moment. Still, considering that the Toffees have secured a stay in the Prem, they’re going to be in a celebratory mood on the final day, not caring too much about what happens on the pitch.

West Ham players have a very difficult job on their hands as they’re taking on Brighton on the road. Still, knowing that the Hammers could book the ticket to the next season’s Europa League, I’m certain they will give their utmost to win on Sunday.

I also expect Leicester City to beat Southampton as the Foxes have been playing great soccer lately. Plus, winning that game would mean staying in the #9 position or possibly moving up one place.

Finally, in what’s going to be Ralf Rangnick’s final game at the helm of Manchester United, I expect a real battle on the pitch. The Red Devils look out of shape, while the Eagles have been in a goal-scoring mood lately. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a draw at the end of the 90 minutes.

Those are my top picks for the final day of the 2021-22 Premier League. I think we’ll see big favorites winning big on Sunday. I also think we’ll see a lot of goals in all ten games of Round 38.
