Predictions and Picks for Round 14 of the 2022 Liga MX Clausura (April 14-17)

| April 11, 2022 5:52 am PDT

Are you looking for the best bets and predictions for Liga MX Round 14? If so, then you have come to the right place. Before we dive into my predictions and picks, let’s take a quick look at the schedule.

LIGA MX SCHEDULE (ROUND 14)

  • Atlas vs. Mazatlan
  • Necaxa vs. Atletico San Luis
  • FC Juarez vs. Pachuca
  • Club Tijuana vs. Club America
  • Club Leon vs. Club Puebla
  • Tigres UANL vs. Deportivo Toluca
  • Santos Laguna vs. Queretaro
  • Cruz Azul vs. Guadalajara
  • Pumas UNAM vs. Monterrey

Below, I take an in-depth look at four featured games before sharing the rest of my Round 14 Liga MX predictions. Having trawled the best soccer betting sites, I also go over the top Liga MX picks for Round 14.

Atlas to Beat Mazatlan

Atlas has suffered just three defeats in 13 Clausura clashes. Having won three of their previous five, the reigning Apertura champions find themselves fourth in the Liga MX standings.

Only six teams have scored fewer goals than Los Zorros this term. However, they have conceded a measly ten goals – meaning they boast the best defensive record in Mexico’s top tier.

FEWEST GOALS CONCEDED (2022 CLAUSURA)

  • Atlas: 10
  • Monterrey: 11
  • Pachuca: 12

At the opposite end of the table, seventeenth-place Mazatlan sits 13 points behind Atlas. The Gunboats head into Round 14 on an eight-game winless run, having registered three draws and five losses since their last victory.

Given that Gabriel Caballero’s men have managed to win just two of their 13 Clausura games, Atlas should win this clash without any real issues.

Pachuca to Beat FC Juarez

If you think Mazatlan’s record is bad, then wait until you learn about Juarez. Guillermo Almada’s boys have failed to win any of their last ten outings and have lost each of their previous six.

To make matters worse, Juarez has failed to score a single goal in four games. Having netted just eight goals in 13 Clausura encounters, it’s no wonder that Los Tuzos find themselves rock bottom of the Liga MX standings!

On the flip side, Pachuca has recorded only two losses in 12 outings this term. Thanks to a run of six wins in seven games, Ricardo Ferretti’s men are sitting pretty in second place.

Not only do Los Bravos have the third-best defensive record, but they also have the second-best offensive record. Boasting a healthy goal difference of +12, they look set to make light work of lowly Juarez.

Tigres UANL to Beat Deportivo Toluca

Having lost just one of their past 11 games, the Tigers sit one point clear atop the Liga MX standings. It is also worth noting that UANL has picked up four wins across the past five rounds.

Thanks largely to the exploits of Andre-Pierre Gignac, who has netted ten goals in 11 Clausura appearances, the Tigers are the top scorers in the comp. As it stands, they average exactly two goals per game.

MOST GOALS SCORED (2022 CLAUSURA)

  • Tigres UANL: 26
  • Pachuca: 24
  • Puebla: 23

Granted, Toluca is not enduring a bad season. The Red Devils find themselves in eighth place after recording five wins, three draws, and five losses. Still, they are miles behind Tigres.

I fully expect the Tigers to pick up their tenth victory in 12 games this weekend. The Red Devils have only managed to win one of their previous five, so I’m confident that UANL will come out on top at the Estadio Universitario.

Club America to Beat Club Tijuana

All of a sudden, Club America is enjoying a three-game winning streak. Given their below-par start to the Clausura campaign, the Eagles will be brimming with belief after turning things around.

The club from the capital suffered four losses in six outings at the beginning of the season. As we head into Round 14, Fernando Ortiz’s men have lost only one of their previous seven Liga MX games – claiming three wins and three draws along the way.

Meanwhile, Club Tijuana managed to record four wins across the first 12 rounds. As we approach the business end of the season, Los Xolos are in real danger of missing out on a top-12 finish altogether.

I’m confident that America will secure a fourth successive win this weekend. After all, the Eagles are soaring at the moment.

Remaining Liga MX Round 14 Predictions

  • Atletico San Luis to Beat Necaxa
  • Club Leon and Club Puebla to Draw
  • Santos Laguna to Beat Queretaro
  • Cruz Azul to Beat Guadalajara
  • Pumas UNAM and Monterrey to Draw

I’m backing Atletico San Luis to beat Necaxa. Atletico has recorded just one loss across the past seven rounds, securing four wins and two draws in the process. On the flip side, Necaxa comes into Round 14 on the back of two straight losses.

Elsewhere, I expect Santos Laguna to dispatch struggling Queretaro and Cruz Azul to overcome off-form Guadalajara. Let’s not forget that Las Chivas have only managed to win one of their last eight outings.

I can see both Club Leon vs. Club Puebla and Pumas UNAM vs. Monterrey ending in a draw. Only one team has recorded more draws than Puebla this season, while only three sides have drawn more Clausura clashes than UNAM.

Top Liga MX Picks for Round 14

  • Club Leon vs. Club Puebla – Both Teams to Score (1.68)
  • Santos Laguna vs. Queretaro – Over 2.5 Goals (2.00)
  • Tigres UANL vs. Deportivo Toluca – Tigres UANL to Win (1.50)

Both teams have scored in each of Puebla’s last seven Liga MX games. With that in mind, you won’t be surprised to learn that I recommend opting for the BTTS wager when Puebla visits Leon.

Since the Clausura began, Santos Laguna’s games have averaged 3.2 goals. Almost 70% of Santos’ clashes have dished up more than two goals, making the price for the over 2.5 goals wager look very tasty.

In my eyes, backing UANL to beat Toluca is a very safe bet. While the Tigers have won nine of their last 11 league games, Toluca has claimed just two wins across the past nine rounds.
