Predictions and Picks for Round 12 of the 2022 Liga MX Clausura (April 1-3)

| March 31, 2022 1:54 am PDT

Mexican soccer returns this Friday, April 1, following the international break. Atletico San Luis and Mazatlan kick off Round 12 of the Liga MX Clausura at Estadio Alfonso Lastras.

Today, I will be sharing my Round 12 Liga MX predictions and picks. Before we get started, here is the weekend’s fixture list in full.

  • Atletico San Luis vs. Mazatlan
  • Cruz Azul vs. Atlas
  • Necaxa vs. Club America
  • Juarez vs. Pumas UNAM
  • Deportivo Toluca vs. Puebla
  • Club Leon vs. Queretaro
  • Tigres UANL vs. Club Tijuana
  • Santos Laguna vs. Pachuca

With eight tasty matchups on the schedule, there is no shortage of Liga MX betting opportunities on offer. Let’s get the ball rolling with my Atletico San Luis vs. Mazatlan prediction.

Atletico San Luis to Beat Mazatlan

This is a crucial battle between two sides struggling in the bottom three. If recent form is anything to go by, however, it’s fair to say that Atletico San Luis has the upper hand over Mazatlan.

Mazatlan heads into Round 12 on a six-game winless run, having registered two draws and four losses since their last victory. As a result, they find themselves level with last-place Juarez on eight points.

To make matters worse for the Gunboats,
they have the joint-worst defensive record in the league. Having conceded a whopping 20 goals in 11 games, few would argue that they don’t deserve to be where they are.

On the flip side, San Luis kicked off the Clausura campaign with five defeats in six games but has since bounced back. Andre Jardine’s men have lost only one of their past four Liga MX outings, picking up two wins and one draw along the way.

While San Luis is on the rise, Mazatlan is on the slide. That’s why I’m backing the hosts to dispatch the visitors on Friday.

Tigres UANL to Beat Club Tijuana

After losing just one of their ten Clausura clashes, the Tigers find themselves second in the Liga MX standings – two points behind first-place Pachuca.

Miguel Herrera’s boys have won seven of their previous eight league games and also secured friendly wins over Club America and Pachuca during the international break. That means they have won nine of their past ten outings.

Remarkably, Andre-Pierre Gignac is on an eight-game scoring streak in Liga MX. The veteran Frenchman has netted nine goals across the past eight rounds, making him the league’s top scorer.

2022 LIGA MX CLAUSURA TOP SCORERS

  • Andre-Pierre Gignac (Tigres UANL) – 9 goals
  • Nicolas Ibanez (Pachuca) – 7 goals
  • Rodrigo Aguirre (Necaxa) – 5 goals

Meanwhile, Club Tijuana sits nine points behind UANL in ninth place. Los Xolos have managed to win four of their ten Clausura encounters, registering two draws and four losses in the process.

I’m confident that UANL will get the better of Tijuana on Sunday. With in-form striker Gignac leading the line, the Tigers should hunt down their prey without any major problems.

Pachuca to Beat Santos Laguna

Can anyone stop Pachuca?

The Gophers come into Round 12 of a five-game winning streak. When you look at the bigger picture, they have won eight of their ten encounters this season.

With 21 goals to their name, Guillermo Almada’s men are the second-highest scorers in Liga MX. On top of that, they boast the joint-best defensive record – having kept three straight clean sheets before the international break.

By contrast, Santos Laguna has picked up just three victories in 11 matches. The Warriors find themselves 13 points behind high-flying Pachuca after losing five of their previous ten league games.

I’m backing the Gophers to extend their winning streak to six matches on Sunday. Only two sides have conceded more goals than Santos this season, meaning free-scoring Pachuca should make light work of the Warriors.

More Round 12 Liga MX Predictions

  • Cruz Azul and Atlas and Draw
  • Club America to Beat Necaxa
  • Pumas UNAM to Beat Juarez
  • Puebla to Beat Deportivo Toluca
  • Club Leon to Beat Queretaro

Just two points separate sixth-place Cruz Azul and fourth-place Atlas, so I can see them playing out a draw on Saturday. Later that day, I expect a resurgent Club America outfit to get the better of Necaxa and Pumas UNAM to overcome lowly Juarez.

Since Puebla has suffered a solitary defeat in 11 games, I’m confident that Nicolas Larcamon’s boys will beat Deportivo Toluca. After all, the Red Devils have lost three of their previous four matches.

The last of my Liga MX predictions concerns Club Leon vs. Queretaro. I’m backing the hosts to win this one, given that they lead the visitors by seven points in the Liga MX standings.

Best Liga MX Bets for Round 12

  • Atletico San Luis vs. Mazatlan – Atletico San Luis to Win (1.86)
  • Juarez vs. Pumas UNAM – Pumas UNAM to Win (2.50)
  • Santos Laguna vs. Pachuca – Over 2.5 Goals (2.25)

Mazatlan sits joint-last in the Liga MX standings. The Gunboats have recorded two draws and four losses since their last win, so I’m confident that San Luis will claim all three points on home soil.

Elsewhere, I’m backing UNAM to secure a road victory over Juarez. Not only have Ricardo Ferretti’s boys lost each of their last four matches, but they have also failed to win any of their previous eight.

Odds of 2.25 for Santos and Pachuca to dish up three or more goals? Yes, please! This season, eight of Santos’ 11 games have produced over 2.5 goals. Furthermore, the Gophers are the second-highest scorers in the league.
