Predictions and Picks for MLS Games on Sunday, November 7, 2021

| November 4, 2021 12:59 am PDT

Sunday is decision day in Major League Soccer.

The final round of regular-season fixtures sees 26 of the 27 MLS teams (minus Houston Dynamo) in action – and there is still so much to be decided.

Only four teams from each conference have booked their place in the playoffs, meaning six postseason spots are still up for grabs.

Five sides can still qualify in the West, while six teams will compete for the three remaining playoff berths in the East. I told you there is plenty to be decided, didn’t I?

In this post, I share my MLS predictions and picks for Sunday. I cover every single game before providing the best MLS bets for decision day.

Columbus Crew to Beat Chicago Fire

Columbus must win on Sunday to stand any chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

The defending MLS Cup champions find themselves tenth in the Eastern Conference – three points behind the seventh-place Red Bulls – meaning they need results elsewhere to go their way, too.

Thankfully, the Crew welcomes the Fire to Ohio this weekend. Chicago sits ten points behind Colombus, having picked up just nine wins in 33 MLS outings this year.

Following victories over Orlando City and DC United, Columbus heads into decision day on a two-game winning streak. That’s why I’m backing the hosts to dispatch the visitors at Field.

Atlanta United to Beat FC Cincinnati

Atlanta United is the highest-ranked team in the East that has yet to secure a playoff berth. The fifth-place Five Stripes sit two points inside the top seven, so they can afford to draw on Sunday.

However, I’m confident that Atlanta will beat FC Cincinnati without any problems.

Not only have Gonzalo Pineda’s men avoided defeat in each of their last five games, but they have also won ten of their previous 16 outings – suffering just three losses in the process.

At the opposite end of the standings, Cincy sits eight points adrift at the bottom. Since Tyrone Marshall’s men have lost each of their past 11 matches, Atlanta should claim the victory with ease.

Real Salt Lake to Beat Sporting Kansas City

It’s fair to say that Sporting Kansas City is stumbling over the finish line. The Wizards have already punched their ticket to the postseason, but they have recorded a series of poor results recently.

Across the past 11 games, Sporting KC has registered six wins and five defeats – losing three of their previous four. They even suffered a shock 3-1 loss to lowly Austin FC on Wednesday.

On the other hand, Real Salt Lake must win on Sunday to stand any chance of reaching the postseason. The Utah club is currently two points outside the top seven in the West.

Ultimately, RSL needs all three points more than SKC. Considering the Wizards’ recent slump, I’m backing the Claret & Cobalt to secure the win at Children’s Mercy Park.

Portland Timbers to Beat Austin FC

Sebastian Blanco bagged a brace as Portland sealed an impressive road victory over RSL on Wednesday. The Argentine has notched six goals and six assists in 1092 minutes of action since returning from injury.

The Timbers have now won nine of their last 13 games and are making plans for the playoffs. They shouldn’t struggle to get the better of lowly Austin this weekend.

Austin sits second from bottom in the West – 21 points behind Portland. Josh Wolff’s men have faltered throughout their maiden MLS campaign, losing 20 of their 33 matches.

Granted, the debutants have upped their game in recent weeks. But I expect the Timbers to beat Austin and extend their winning streak to three games on Sunday.

More MLS Predictions for Sunday, November 7

Here are the rest of my predictions for Sunday’s MLS games.

  • CF Montreal to Beat Orlando City
  • New York City and Philadelphia Union to Draw
  • DC United to Beat Toronto FC
  • Nashville SC and New York Red Bulls to Draw
  • New England Revolution to Beat Inter Miami
  • San Jose Earthquakes to Beat FC Dallas
  • LA Galaxy and Minnesota United to Draw
  • Colorado Rapids to Beat Los Angeles FC
  • Seattle Sounders to Beat Vancouver Whitecaps

There are a number of really tight matchups taking place on Sunday, meaning we should see a few draws. With so much at stake, teams will be desperate to avoid defeat.

I’m backing CF Montreal and DC United to beat Orlando City and Toronto FC, respectively. Montreal and DC both need to win to qualify for the playoffs, so I’m confident they will get the job done.

I also expect New England, San Jose, Colorado, and Seattle to finish the regular season on a high.

My Top MLS Betting Picks for Sunday, November 7

Let’s wrap things up by checking out my top MLS picks for Sunday. Remember to place your wagers with only the best MLS betting sites.

Portland Timbers vs. Austin FC

I predicted that Portland will beat Austin, but the price for the home win is only 1.67. In order to get better value, I recommend selecting the over 2.5 goals market for this clash.

This year, 64% of the Timbers’ games have produced at least three goals. As a result, they are averaging 3.2 goals per game in 2021.

Oh, and let’s not forget that Austin has one of the worst defenses in the West. This season, Wolff’s men have conceded 53 goals in 33 outings, so they should struggle to keep out free-scoring Portland.

  • Pick: Over 2.5 Goals (1.90)

New England Revolution vs. Inter Miami

New England has been the best team in Major League Soccer by a considerable margin this year. I mean, Bruce Arena’s side sits a whopping 20 points clear of second-place Philly in the East.

The Revs have won 22 of their 33 matches this season, losing only four. By contrast, Inter Miami has registered just 11 wins and 17 defeats.

The Herons have lost eight of their past ten games, while the Revs have lost one of their previous 20. Needless to say, New England should crush Inter Miami this weekend.

  • Pick: New England Revolution to Win (1.50)

Toronto FC vs. DC United

Toronto FC heads into decision day on a five-game winless run in MLS. The Canadians’ playoff dreams ended a long time ago, so I can’t see them putting up much of a fight on Sunday.

DC United, on the other hand, needs to win at BMO Field. Hernan Losada’s men sit three points outside the top seven, meaning they must taste victory to keep themselves in contention for the postseason.

Given that DC is on the road this weekend, the price for the away win is extremely generous here. I recommend backing the Black-and-Red to seal the deal in Ontario.

  • Pick: DC United to Win (2.30)
