Predictions and Picks for All A-League Games on Saturday, March 19, 2022

| March 16, 2022 8:37 am PDT

There are four A-League games to bet on this Saturday, March 19. The clash between Sydney FC and Western United is destined to be a thriller, but the Melbourne Derby is undoubtedly the standout game on the schedule.

Before you dive into my A-League predictions and picks for Saturday, be sure to examine the fixture list.

  • Central Coast Mariners vs. Macarthur FC
  • Sydney FC vs. Western United
  • Melbourne City vs. Melbourne Victory
  • Perth Glory vs. Brisbane Roar

In the early kick-off, the Mariners will aim to extend their unbeaten streak to four games when they welcome Macarthur to Gosford. The late kick-off sees Brisbane face Perth in Western Australia.

Right, it’s time to go over my betting picks and predictions for A-League games on Saturday, March 19.

Central Coast Mariners and Macarthur FC to Draw

The Mariners appear to be heading in the right direction again after enduring a seven-game winless run across January and February. Thanks to one victory and two draws, they come into the clash against Macarthur on a three-game unbeaten streak.

Although Nick Montgomery’s men have managed to win just one of their last nine outings, they have drawn four of their previous eight. That tells you everything you need to know about their resilience.

As for the Bulls, they ended a three-match winless run last weekend – beating Western Sydney Wanderers 3-1. That said, they have claimed only three victories in their past 11 A-League encounters.

Granted, fourth-place Macarthur leads ninth-place Central Coast by nine points. But the Mariners invariably up their game on home soil. That’s why I’m backing the hosts to hold the visitors to a draw.

Western United to Beat Sydney FC

Western United has won more A-League games than any other team this season. Despite having played two games fewer than Melbourne City and Adelaide United, Western has picked up ten wins in 16 matches.

Better still, no side has suffered fewer defeats than John Aloisi’s men. They also boast the best defensive record in the competition, having conceded a measly 14 goals.

On the flip side,
Sydney FC has registered five wins, six draws, and six losses this season. Following an indifferent start to the campaign, the 2020 champions find themselves 12 points behind Western on the A-League ladder.

The Sky Blues have lost three of their last four games and have managed to win just one of their previous six. For that reason, I’m confident that high-flying Western will claim all three points this weekend.

Melbourne City to Beat Melbourne Victory

Who will claim the Melbourne bragging rights this time around? Well, if the standings are anything to go by, City has the upper hand on Victory at this moment in time.

The reigning champs find themselves 11 points clear of Victory on the A-League ladder, having lost just three of their 18 games this season. Granted, Victory has games in hand over City. But City has points on the board.

Thanks largely to the exploits of Jamie Maclaren (12 goals, 2 assists), Patrick Kisnorbo’s boys are the top scorers in the comp. Mathew Leckie (6 goals, 3 assists), Florin Berenguer (5 goals, 2 assists), and Andrew Nabbout (4 goals, 4 assists) are also in good form.

Remarkably, Victory has netted 18 goals fewer than City this season. You probably won’t be surprised that I’m backing City to outscore Victory in Saturday’s Melbourne Derby.

Perth Glory and Brisbane Roar to Draw

Last-place Perth Glory and second-bottom Brisbane Roar are separated by a solitary point as they prepare to face off in WA. Both sides have suffered eight defeats this season, emphasizing their struggles.

It is also worth noting that both teams have lost three of their past five games. Brisbane recorded three straight defeats before beating Wellington last weekend, while Perth ended a run of four losses in five matches with a draw against the Mariners.

Unsurprisingly,
Perth and Brisbane are the league’s lowest scorers, too. The Glory has netted just 12 goals in 15 outings, while the Roar has bagged 14 in 14.

All the signs point towards the draw here. Both sides will be desperate to avoid another defeat this weekend, meaning they will both be happy to settle for a share of the spoils.

Best A-League Bets for Saturday, March 19

That’s it for Saturday’s A-League predictions, but I’m not finished just yet. Before I sign off, I want to share my recommended betting picks with you.

Central Coast Mariners vs. Macarthur FC – Both Teams to Score1.60
Sydney FC vs. Western United – Western United to Win3.50
Melbourne City vs. Melbourne Victory – Melbourne City to Win1.75
Perth Glory vs. Brisbane Roar – Under 2.5 Goals1.90

I’m confident that both teams will score when Macarthur visits Central Coast. The Bulls are the third-highest scorers in the A-League, but they also have the second-worst defensive record.

Elsewhere, I’m sticking with my predictions for the next two games. Western United is good enough to beat Sydney FC away from home, while City is in pole position to claim the Melbourne bragging rights at Victory’s expense.

This season, 11 of Perth’s 15 games have produced under 2.5 goals. Given that Brisbane also struggles to find the net, the late kick-off is destined to be a low-scoring affair.

Whether you like the look of my A-League picks, or you want to try your luck with your own picks, be sure to use only the best A-League betting sites when it comes to laying down your wagers.
