Predictions and Picks for the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic

| July 26, 2022 6:07 am PDT

I am kicking myself after last week’s 3M Open. I was going to have Tony Finau as my pick but switched to Davis Riley. Riley missed the cut while Finau scored his third career victory.

My golf picks are moving forward with the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Detroit Golf Club hosts the tournament for the fourth straight year. It’s a relatively new tournament, so we could see a surprise winner.

I won’t second guess myself in my Rocket Mortgage Classic picks. Let’s start with the top betting sites for the tournament.

I always follow the same plan to find the best odds for a PGA Tour tournament. The first thing I look for is which site offers the most props. That lets me know which site has spent time and effort covering a PGA Tour tournament.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic odds are important, but I’m willing to take a slight loss in value for a site with more props. Of course, bettors are free to make their bets across multiple sites.

We can’t make our golf predictions without the odds. Let’s check out the favorites for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Odds

Patrick Cantlay+1100
Tony Finau+1400
Will Zalatoris+1600
Cameron Young+2000
Max Homa+2500
Cameron Davis+3000
Adam Scott+3300
Kevin Kisner+3500
Davis Riley+4000
Webb Simpson+4000

Patrick Cantlay opens as the favorite for the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic. Surprisingly, Cantlay hasn’t won an individual PGA Tour event in 2022, but he has been in contention for wins.

Tony Finau is riding momentum after winning the 2022 3M Open. He, Will Zalatoris, and Cameron Young represent Cantlay’s biggest challengers. Zalatoris and Young finished second in the last two major tournaments.

There’s a considerable drop-off from Young to Max Homa to Cameron Davis. Davis is the defending champion after defeating Troy Merritt and Joaquin Niemann in a playoff.

We should see a fun tournament as we move closer to the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Please visit BetUS to view the complete list of odds and make your Rocket Mortgage Classic prediction.

Best Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Picks

Tony Finau and Sungjae Im finished first and second as my top picks in the 3M Open. Can we do the impossible and replicate that success?

Patrick Cantlay (+1100)

Tony Finau won the 3M Open after opening as the favorite. Why not take the same approach with Patrick Cantlay? Cantlay caught fire at the end of last season, winning the 2021 FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Cantlay has one victory this season, but it was the Zurich Classic. Last year’s Tour Championship was his last victory in an individual event. Will this be the week he ends the drought?

Even without a win, Cantlay has been one of the best golfers in 2022. Check out his numbers.

  • 3 Top-Three Finishes
  • 6 Top-Five Finishes
  • 9 Top-10 Finishes

He missed the cut at the PGA Championship, but he hasn’t finished worse than 14th in his last five starts. Cantlay enters the Rocket Mortgage Classic on the heels of back-to-back top 10 finishes.

This is his first start at Detroit Golf Club, but he should be in your golf picks. It’s only a matter of time before he wins his first individual tournament of 2022. There’s a strong chance it will happen this weekend.

Will Zalatoris (+1600)

Let’s continue the theme of great players without a victory in 2022. Somehow, Will Zalatoris hasn’t won a PGA Tour event. The 25-year-old has only been on the PGA Tour for a few years, but his play has him among the top players.

Zalatoris has dealt with heartbreak many times in 2022. He lost the PGA Championship in a playoff, and barely missed a putt to force a playoff in the U.S. Open. It’s not easy to put that behind you.

Zalatoris has been hit or miss since April. He has five finishes of sixth or better in his last nine starts. His other four starts feature three missed cuts and a 39th-place finish. We can only hope the good version shows up in Detroit.

This will be his second start in the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He had a solid start to last year’s tournament but fell down the leaderboard after shooting six-over on the weekend.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic odds have him as a top contender. I believe he’ll contend for his first PGA Tour win.

Value Picks for the Rocket Mortgage Classic

My top picks had a great performance in the 3M Open, but we can’t say the same for my value picks. Let’s see how my golf predictions view the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Kevin Kisner (+3500)

Kevin Kisner may not be a popular pick outside of match-play tournaments, but he finds his way into my value picks for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Kisner recently had a brutal stretch, missing the cut in five of six starts. In fact, he had one top 30 finish from early February to late June. Thankfully, he enters the Rocket Mortgage Classic with back-to-back top 25 finishes.

He wasn’t a factor in his first start at Detroit Golf Club, but he’s coming off a pair of impressive finishes.

  • 2020: -18 (3rd)
  • 2021: -15 (8th)

Kisner made a final round charge in 2020, but he couldn’t track down winner Bryson DeChambeau. Kisner had four consistent rounds last year, shooting between 67-69. He could’ve used a 65 or 66 after missing a playoff by three shots.

We haven’t seen consistency from Kisner in 2022, but he has good finishes. He has four top 10 finishes, including a sixth-place in the Travelers Championship in mid-June. Will we see another strong performance at Detroit Golf Club?

Cameron Tringale (+4000)

Cameron Tringale was one of my value picks in the 3M Open, but he missed the cut. Am I a fool for running it back? I guess we’ll find out on Sunday (or Friday).

We’ve seen quite a few solid results from Tringale in 2022. He has nine top 20 finishes, including a pair of top-three finishes. He’s a veteran of the PGA Tour, but it’s not too late for his first win.

He makes my free Rocket Mortgage Classic picks because of his performance at Detroit Golf Club. Tringale looked great in the inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic. He finished fifth, despite shooting one under in the final round.

It’s interesting to look at the last two years because his scores were -13 and -12. However, he finished 16 spots better in 2021.

Hopefully, Tringale doesn’t let me down for the second straight week. We don’t have to be aggressive with his (+4000) odds. There’s enough value to take a chance.

2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic Prop Bets

Adam Hadwin let me down following a strong first round, but Garrick Higgo missing the cut gave me one successful prop bet in the 3M Open.

Here are my top prop bets for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Top Austrian: Sepp Straka (-125)

Typically, you’ll see many golfers with a prop relating to the top finisher from a particular country. That’s not the case with the top Austrian, as Sepp Straka battles Matthias Schwab.

Schwab has been more consistent in 2022, but Straka has a victory. He enters the Rocket Mortgage Classic with four straight missed cuts, but his performance at Detroit Golf Club gives me confidence.

  • 2019: -16 (11th)
  • 2020: -15 (8th)

Schwab makes his first start at Detroit Golf Club. Meanwhile, Straka has shown success with a pair of top 15 finishes. I believe he’ll have another strong performance and finish ahead of Schwab.

Troy Merritt to Finish Top 20 (+320)

I considered including Troy Merritt in my top Rocket Mortgage Classic picks, but I couldn’t pass on the value of his top 20 prop. Merritt’s 2022 season has been a struggle, as he hasn’t scored a top 20 finish in nine straight starts.

It’s not ideal for this prop, but he has been a top contender in the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He has back-to-back top 10 finishes in the tournament, including a runner-up finish in last year’s tournament.

Merritt was in a playoff with Cameron Davis but lost on the fifth hole. We’d love another strong performance, but a top 20 finish gives us great value.

Predicting Who Wins the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic

My Pick: Will Zalatoris (+1600)Bet on Golf at BetUS

We’ve seen Will Zalatoris in contention for multiple wins in 2022. My Rocket Mortgage Classic pick has him finally scoring his first PGA Tour victory.

Zalatoris wasn’t a factor in last year’s tournament, but he’s playing much better in 2022. I value his recent performance over one tournament from last season. Do you believe Zalatoris picks up his first PGA Tour win at Detroit Golf Club?
