Predictions and Picks for the 2022 John Deere Classic

| June 28, 2022 6:11 am PDT

We saw an intense battle in the Travelers Championship. Sahith Theegala put himself in position to win with a Sunday comeback, but a double bogey on the final hole ended his chances. Xander Schauffele birdied the final hole to score his second victory of the season.

The PGA Tour heads to Quad Cities for the John Deere Classic. The John Deere Classic picks won’t be easy, considering it’s an extremely weak field. You’ll find out how weak with the John Deere Classic odds.

How will that affect your golf predictions?

Best John Deere Classic Betting Sites

Last week, I didn’t expect the Travelers Championship to have much betting interest. It should be worse with the John Deere Classic. It could be a tough week between the weak field and the LIV Golf Tournament in Oregon.

However, these are the best sites for the John Deere Classic betting odds. I looked around several sites before settling on BetUS for my picks. BetOnline and MyBookie have odds, but I preferred the props with BetUS.

Which site will you make your John Deere Classic prediction on? Feel free to visit each site to see which golfers present the most value.

2022 John Deere Classic Betting Odds

Webb Simpson+1100
Adam Hadwin+1600
Sahith Theegala+2200
Denny McCarthy+2500
Patrick Rodgers+3000
Scott Stallings+3000
Nick Hardy+3000
Jason Day+3300
Maverick McNealy+3300
Brendon Todd+3300

My golf picks typically feature heavy-hitters like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Justin Thomas. Well, we won’t see the same with the John Deere Classic odds.

Webb Simpson opens as the favorite, with Adam Hadwin being the only other golfer under (+2000) odds. Daniel Berger was the initial favorite, but he withdrew with an injury. He was the only player in the field in the top 50 of the World Golf Rankings.

I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t recognize players on this list. Simpson and Jason Day are major champions, but five players on this list have never won a PGA Tour event.

Best John Deere Classic Betting Picks

I felt good with Rory McIlroy after he led following the first round of the Travelers Championship, but he collapsed with a quadruple bogey in the second round.

Let’s examine the top contenders for the 2022 John Deere Classic.

Webb Simpson (+1100)

Someone has to be the favorite for the 2022 John Deere Classic. Daniel Berger withdrew, opening the door for Webb Simpson.

This will be his fourth start in the John Deere Classic, but he hasn’t visited TPC Deere Run since 2010. That’s two years before he won the 2012 U.S. Open. Typically, I’d pick someone with an extensive course background, but we have to think outside the box.

Simpson missed time in 2022 with a neck injury, but we’ve seen him score solid finishes this season.

  • CJ Cup @ Summit: -19 (14th)
  • RSM Classic: -14 (8th)
  • Travelers Championship: -10 (13th)

We hadn’t seen much from Simpson following his return from neck surgery, but he showed improvement at the Travelers Championship. That gave him three finishes of 27th or better in his last four starts.

It’s interesting to see someone like Simpson play in the John Deere Classic for the first time since 2010. He must have confidence in his game to suit up at TPC Deere Run.

A weak field could be enough for his first win in two years.

Sahith Theegala (+2200)

You have to feel for Sahith Theegala. In February, Theegala came from nowhere to lead the WM Phoenix Open following the first three rounds. He was in a great spot until he hit his tee shot into the water on the 71st hole.

A bogey left him one shot of a playoff. He wasn’t as dominant in last week’s Travelers Championship, but he held a one-shot lead on the final hole. Unfortunately, we saw another late collapse.

He narrowly missed a bogey putt, which didn’t matter after Xander Schauffele birdied the final hole. Still, a par would’ve put Theegala in a playoff. It was a brutal finish, but he’s playing too well not to win a PGA Tour event.

Those tournaments aren’t the only time we’ve seen him in contention. He has five top 10 finishes in the 2021-22 season, including two top-five finishes in his last three starts.

This will be his first start at TPC Deere Run. I’m not letting that stop me from including Theegala in my golf picks. His strong play should continue in the John Deere Classic.

Value Picks for the John Deere Classic

We just talked about Sahith Theegala nearly winning the Travelers Championship. He had (+10000) odds ahead of the tournament.

Does your John Deere Classic prediction have a sleeper winning?

Scott Stallings (+3000)

Scott Stallings is quietly having a solid season. He opened the season with two finishes of sixth or better in his first four starts. It took a while to score another top 10 finish, but Stallings finished fourth in the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Last week, we didn’t see Stallings in contention through three rounds. However, he earned a strong finish following a stellar final round.

Stallings has missed the cut in six of his last 11 starts. When he doesn’t miss the cut, he hasn’t finished worse than 25th since THE PLAYERS Championship.

Finding players with good numbers at TPC Deere Run is difficult, but that doesn’t apply to Stallings. He has three top 20 finishes in his last five starts in the John Deere Classic. He shot a pair of 64’s on his way to a fifth-place finish in 2017.

Stallings is an intriguing option at (+3000). He would be a longshot in a more competitive field, but he presents enough value to make my top sleepers. My free John Deere Classic picks are keeping an eye on him.

Lucas Glover (+4500)

Lucas Glover is my favorite longshot pick on the best golf betting sites. There’s no need to sugarcoat things and act like Glover is having a great season. He finished fifth in the Sony Open in Hawaii, but that’s his only top 20 finish.

Why is Glover among my top picks for the John Deere Classic? He’s the only player in the field with back-to-back top 10 finishes at TPC Deere Run. That includes a spectacular performance in last year’s tournament.

  • First Round: 68 (-3)
  • Second Round: 63 (-8)
  • Third Round: 70 (-1)
  • Fourth Round: 64 (-7)

Glover entered the final round trailing by two shots. He went off on the back nine, birdieing five of six holes to take the lead. He scored a two-shot victory over Ryan Moore and Kevin Na.

This was his first victory since the 2011 Wells Fargo Championship. Will lightning strike for the second straight year?

He hasn’t had a great season, but I wouldn’t count him out. Glover has had success at TPC Deere Run. It wouldn’t surprise me if he did it again.

2022 John Deere Classic: Best Props

Kevin Streelman nearly paid off with a top 20 finish at (+500), but he fell five spots short. Check out my favorite John Deere Classic prop bets.

Sam Ryder to Make the Cut (-140)

Sam Ryder’s biggest highlight of the season was making a hole-in-one at the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale. Ryder’s 35th-place finish in the Travelers Championship marked his first made cut in an individual event since THE PLAYERS Championship.

I have confidence in Ryder for the John Deere Classic because of his success at TPC Deere Run. He has made the cut in his three starts, including a second-place finish in the 2018 tournament.

It’s tough to find value with a golfer making the cut, but Ryder’s odds are among the highest on the board. Hopefully, he’ll keep it going at TPC Deere Run.

Ryan Moore to Finish Top 20 (+400)

Ryan Moore doesn’t have a top 20 finish in 10 starts this season. He missed nearly four months with a back injury, but he played in two tournaments in June. Moore finished in a tie for 35th in his last start.

Like Sam Ryder, I’m backing Moore because of his success at TPC Deere Run.

  • 2012: -14 (8th)
  • 2014: -16 (7th)
  • 2016: -22 (1st)
  • 2019: -13 (18th)
  • 2021: -17 (2nd)

Back-to-back top 20 finishes in the John Deere Classic give me confidence in this prop. Can he turn around his season with a strong performance?

Predicting Who Wins the 2022 John Deere Classic

My Pick: Sahith Theegala (+2200)Bet on Golf at BetUS

It’s not easy to make a John Deere Classic pick because of the weak field. Sahith Theegala has been on the verge of his first victory, including last week. I believe he’ll finish the job at TPC Deere Run.

Theegala has been consistent in tournaments he doesn’t compete for the win. Odds aside, I believe he’s the best player in the field. Can he close the deal with his first PGA Tour victory?
