Predictions and Picks for the 2022 3M Open
The PGA Tour returns to the states this week for the 3M Open. This will be the fourth installment of the event after it moved from the Champions Tour to the PGA Tour in 2019.
TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota will host the tournament for the 22nd straight year. It’s not an extremely competitive field, but we have a few top 50 players in the world.
Who will follow the Open Championship with a strong performance? My 3M Open picks break down the top contenders and value picks.
We can’t make our golf predictions without visiting the golf betting sites. Each site has odds for the 3M Open, but I base my selection on the top props. It’s tough to predict the winner, so the props give us a better chance to earn a profit.
Hopefully, this isn’t your first time making golf picks because we’ve released top picks throughout the season. Feel free to check out each site to see which suits your betting style.
The 3M Open odds reveal the top contenders for the 2022 tournament. Let’s see which players have the upper hand.
2022 3M Open Betting Odds
The 3M Open odds have Tony Finau as the favorite. Finau and Hideki Matsuyama are the only top 25 players in the field. Sungjae Im, Tom Hoge, and Cameron Tringale are the other top 50 players competing in the 3M Open.
We should see a wide-open field, as Adam Hadwin is the only player to finish top 10 more than once in the 3M Open. Former winners Cameron Champ and Michael Thompson aren’t receiving much respect from the sportsbooks.
This could be the tournament to find value. Sahith Theegala has looked much better lately. It’s only a matter of time before he scores his first PGA Tour victory.

Best 3M Open Betting Picks
It was a tough blow to watch my top pick, Rory McIlroy, come up two shots short at the Open Championship. Still, both my top picks finished top 10.
Here are my top 3M Open picks.
Tony Finau (+1400)
Tony Finau salvaged a tough Open Championship with a final round 66. It was only a 28th-place finish, but it could’ve been much worse. That gives him five top 30 finishes in his last six starts.
Finau has come close to winning in 2022, scoring a pair of second-place finishes. It wouldn’t surprise me if his first victory of the season came at TPC Twin Cities. He finished outside the top 20 in 2019 and 2021.
Check out his performance in the 2020 3M Open.
- First Round: 65 (-6)
- Second Round: 66 (-5)
- Third Round: 69 (-2)
- Fourth Round: 68 (-3)
Finau was among the leaders following the first two rounds. He wasn’t terrible on the weekend, but couldn’t go low enough to contend for the win. He finished third, three shots behind winner Michael Thompson.
Finau rarely opens as the favorite, but a weak field gives him the upper hand. Hopefully, a great final round in the Open Championship will propel him to a strong performance.
Sungjae Im (+1800)
Sungjae Im could use a great performance. An eighth-place finish at the Masters began a stretch of five straight finishes of 21st or better. Unfortunately, we’ve seen him move in the opposite direction.
Im missed back-to-back cuts before having the second-highest score among players that made the cut in the Open Championship. That’s not ideal for the 3M Open, but my golf picks believe in a bounce-back effort.
He only has one start at TPC Twin Cities, competing in the 2019 3M Open. Take a look at his numbers.
- First Round: 65 (-6)
- Second Round: 70 (-1)
- Third Round: 68 (-3)
- Fourth Round: 67 (-4)
Im was in contention following an impressive first round but struggled to keep up with the leaders. He scored a solid 15th-place finish. I believe he can improve upon that performance.
We’ve seen him have great performances this season. Im won the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open with a 24-under score. He’ll need a similar performance to score his second victory of the season.
Value Picks for the 3M Open
Tony Finau made a run in the final round but there wasn’t much to like about my Open Championship value picks.
Can we have more success in the 3M Open?
Davis Riley (+2000)
Davis Riley makes his first start in the 3M Open. Riley didn’t play in last week’s Open Championship, but we’ve seen strong performances from the 25-year-old.
Riley had a rough start to the season, scoring two top 25 finishes in his first 13 starts. Everything changed after losing in a playoff in the Valspar Championship. A few weeks later, he started an impressive run.
- Zurich Classic: 4th
- Mexico Open: 5th
- AT&T Byron Nelson: 9th
- PGA Championship: 13th
- Charles Schwab Challenge: 4th
- Memorial Tournament: 13th
That’s six straight finishes of 13th or better. The best golf gambling apps have an interesting price with Riley because he has the fifth-best chance to win, but his (+2000) odds are high enough to be a value pick.
Riley has back-to-back finishes outside the top 30. Is that a sign of things to come, or will it be motivation? I’m going with the latter. He would love to showcase his potential after not qualifying for the Open Championship.
Cameron Tringale (+3000)
The theme of my free 3M Open picks has been players having near misses in the 2021-22 season. We can add Cameron Tringale to that list. Tringale hasn’t won this season but has nine top 15 finishes.
Tringale struggled in the Open Championship, but he was a strong contender the week before. He came out firing with an opening round 61. Tringale didn’t have another round in the 60s, but he finished in a tie for sixth.
He has competed in every 3M Open. The 2020 tournament marked his best performance.
- First Round: 69 (-2)
- Second Round: 70 (-1)
- Third Round: 63 (-8)
- Fourth Round: 66 (-5)
Tringale had the opposite performance of Tony Finau. He had a slow start but made a rally on the weekend. Tringale came a few spots short of winning, but a third-place finish gives me confidence for this week’s tournament.
He was a top contender in last year’s tournament before shooting three-over in the final round. Can he have another strong performance at TPC Twin Cities?
2022 3M Open Prop Bets
Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much to like about my prop bets lately. Let’s see if we can turn things around in the 3M Open.
Adam Hadwin to Finish Top 10 (+250)
Adam Hadwin should be a popular 3M open prediction. Hadwin has five top 10 finishes this season, including a seventh-place finish in the US Open.
TPC Twin Cities has brought him much success. Hadwin quickly got the hang of the course with a strong first round in the 2019 tournament.
Adam Hadwin kicked off the 3M Open with a 64! He currently sits in the clubhouse T1! pic.twitter.com/BgtyNfGlwO— Golf Town (@GolfTown) July 4, 2019
He couldn’t maintain his hot start but hung on for a fourth-place finish. Hadwin didn’t play in the 2020 tournament but returned with another strong performance. He shot 11-under, finishing sixth.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Hadwin competed for the victory. Still, I have no issue with his value of scoring a top 10 finish.
Garrick Higgo to Miss the Cut (+125)
It wouldn’t surprise me if you haven’t heard of Garrick Higgo. The 23-year-old is receiving buzz following a strong final round in the Open Championship. However, I’m not buying into the hype.
Higgo has missed the cut in nine of his last 11 individual tournaments. He finished fourth in the Zurich Classic, but that was a team event. His playing partner, Branden Grace, won the most recent LIV Golf Tour tournament.
How often will you find value for someone like Higgo missing the cut? It was nice to see him play well at St. Andrews, but I don’t believe we’ll see the same at TPC Twin Cities.
Predicting Who Wins the 2022 3M Open
Davis Riley has been close to earning his first PGA Tour victory, but it hasn’t happened. My 3M Open picks believe that ends this week.
Riley has scuffled in his last two starts, but we can’t forget his impressive stretch of six straight finishes of 13th or better. He won’t have any effects from flying straight from St. Andrews to Minnesota for the tournament.
