Best Bets and Predictions for Champions League Games on Tuesday, September 14, 2021
The time has come for a brand-new season of the Champions League. The group stage of the 2021-22 season starts this Tuesday with eight games.
They’re all exciting in their own way, but there are a couple that stand out from a bettor’s perspective. I will now analyze those matches and provide my betting predictions.
Dive in with me as I offer my UEFA Champions League predictions and picks for round one.
Manchester United to Beat Young Boys
A new dawn has started for Manchester United – Cristiano Ronaldo is back!
On his second debut for the Red Devils, the Portuguese legend scored two goals last Saturday against Newcastle in the Premier League. Even though there were rumors that he’s not going to start that game, CR7 proved to everyone that he’s ready to lead his club to glory.
Winning the Premier League might be their main target this season, but they surely wouldn’t complain if they also did well in the Champions League.
They got a fairly easy task ahead, at least in the group stage, where they’re drawn together with Atlanta, Villarreal, and their first opponent, Young Boys.
Of those teams, Young Boys seems like the weakest. The Swiss side did not impress in the qualification, where they had to play against three different teams.
They got to the group stage after some really tough matches that exposed all of their weaknesses. The biggest weakness seems to be their defending – Young Boys allowed a total of eight goals in the qualifiers, despite the fact that they played against relatively weak teams.
Now, they’re facing one of Europe’s best offenses, suggesting that the Swiss might be heading to disaster.
I have no doubt Young Boys will lose this game; the only thing they should hope for is that they don’t get humiliated by Ronaldo and Co.
Bayern Munich to Beat Barcelona
The last time these two met, Barcelona suffered one of the heaviest defeats in recent history. Bayern Munich demolished them 8-2 at Camp Now in the quarter-final of the last season’s Champions League.
The bad news for Barcelona is that it’s not impossible that the same story plays out again. Actually, just by looking at Barcelona’s current roster, it seems something horrible could happen to the Spanish heavyweight on Tuesday.
First of all, it’s because this is the first time in years that Barcelona’s icon, Lionel Messi is not in the club.
Secondly, this team has horrible problems with injuries ahead of the Bayern Munich game. Barça is going to be without at least seven of their first-team players, namely:
- Sergio Aguero (calf injury)
- Ousmane Dembele (knee injury)
- Martin Braithwaite (knee injury)
- Ansu Fati (knee injury)
- Sergi Roberto (injured ribs)
- Moussa Wague (tendon injury)
- Sergino Dest (ankle injury)
What’s even worse is that they’re taking on Bayern Munich, a team that’s almost entirely injury-free.
The only player who will they miss for certain is Corentin Tolisso, who’s out with a calf injury.
Chelsea to Beat Zenit St. Petersburg
The reigning Champions League champion starts its new campaign with a home win against the champion of Russia, Zenit St. Petersburg. Although the Russians mustn’t be underestimated, the fact is that Chelsea is a much, much better team.
Most of the players who won the title last season are still at Stamford Bridge. However, Chelsea is entering the new season with an even stronger squad. It’s all because they now have Romelu Lukaku on the roster. The Belgian striker might be the very best player on the planet in this position.
Even if Lukaku weren’t in the team, Chelsea would still be thought of as a huge favorite against Zenit. This team has players who could beat literally any other team on the planet, especially if the game is played in London.
Other Champions League Predictions for Tuesday
- Sevilla to beat Salzburg
- Juventus to beat Malmo
- Dynamo Kyiv and Benfica to draw
- Lille and Wolfsburg to draw
- Villarreal and Atalanta to draw
Sevilla should be capable of getting a win against Salzburg. The Spanish team has better and more experienced players, plus, the game is played in Spain.
We should also see Juventus beating Malmo, even though the game is played in Sweden where Malmo will have the crowd on their side. Nevertheless, Juve’s players have the quality necessary to grab all three points from their trip to Scandinavia.
It’s because all those teams are of similar quality, with literally nothing separating them. My only doubt is whether Dynamo can hold Benfica to a draw, but considering the game is played in Ukraine, I can see them doing it.
Best Bets for Tuesday’s Champions League Games
- Manchester United -1.5 against Young Boys (2.06)
- Chelsea -1.5 against Zenit St. Petersburg (1.63)
- Bayern Munich to beat Barcelona (1.95)
Manchester United will beat Young Boys, there’s no doubt about it.
This explains why the odds on the Red Devils are so short (1.36). There’s not much value in betting on the English team to win, but betting on them to do it with at least two goals difference definitely seems like a good option.
It’s pretty much the same case when it comes to Chelsea. We should see the London Blues getting a big win on Tuesday.
Then, there’s the clash between Barcelona and Bayern Munich. The German team is coming to Spain to take all three points and no one can stop them.
