Predictions and Best Bets for Round 5 of the Liga MX 2022 Clausura (February 11-14)

| February 10, 2022 3:50 am PDT

Round 5 of the Liga MX 2022 Clausura kicks off this Friday, February 11. Mazatlan and Club Tijuana get the action underway before Club Puebla hosts Atlas.

In total, there are eight Liga MX games to bet on in Round 5. I will share my Round 5 Liga MX predictions and recommended betting picks after going over the weekend’s schedule.

  • Mazatlan vs. Club Tijuana
  • Club Puebla vs. Atlas
  • Guadalajara vs. Tigres UANL
  • Atletico San Luis vs. Toluca
  • Cruz Azul vs. Necaxa
  • Santos Laguna vs. Club America
  • Pumas UNAM vs. Club Leon
  • Pachuca vs. Queretaro

Having made a winless start to the Clausura campaign, Club America will aim to get up and running when they visit Santos Laguna on Saturday. Sunday’s clash between Pumas and Leon is also destined to be a thriller.

If you fancy betting on some European soccer this weekend, be sure to check out my Bundesliga and La Liga predictions and picks. In this post, however, I will be focusing solely on Mexico’s top tier.

Cruz Azul to Beat Necaxa

It’s safe to say that Cruz Azul has made an impressive start to the Clausura campaign. The Sky Blues have yet to taste defeat this term, securing three wins and a draw in their opening four games.

Not only did they beat Club Tijuana, Juarez, and Leon, but they also kept three clean sheets in the process. A crazy 2-2 draw with Monterrey in Round 3 is the only time that Cruz Azul has both dropped points and conceded a goal this year.

By contrast, Necaxa has suffered three defeats in four matches. Following back-to-back losses against Juarez and Monterrey, Jaime Lozano’s men beat Santos Laguna before losing to Pachuca in the previous round.

Necaxa has conceded a whopping ten goals already this year, meaning no team in Mexico’s top division has a poorer defensive record than Lozano’s side. With that in mind, I’m backing high-flying Cruz Azul to dispatch off-form Necaxa.

Club America to Beat Santos Laguna

It is no secret that Club America has started the campaign in poor form. The 2019 Clausura champions have recorded a draw and two losses so far, with only two teams below them in the standings.

However, I can’t see them languishing at the bottom end of the table for much longer. Santiago Solari’s squad is stacked with top players, so I expect the likes of Diego Valdes, Henry Martin, and Roger Martinez to click into gear in due course.

Thankfully for the Eagles, one of the sides below them happens to be Santos Laguna. They have also yet to taste victory this term, having recorded a draw and three losses so far.

This clash provides America with the perfect chance to notch their first win of the season. Let’s not forget that America finished six points clear atop the Apertura standings – 11 points ahead of Santos.

Pachuca to Beat Queretaro

Pachuca heads into Round 5 on a run of three wins in four games. As a result, Guillermo Almada’s men find themselves fourth in the table – one point behind the top three.

After getting the better of Atletico San Luis and Guadalajara, the Gophers suffered a defeat to Leon. But they bounced back in style last weekend, securing an impressive 3-1 away victory against Necaxa.

As for Queretaro, they are fourth from bottom in the standings after registering two draws and two losses. The White Roosters have netted a measly two goals in four outings this term, meaning they currently have the worst offensive record in Liga MX.

In-form Pachuca shouldn’t struggle to overcome lowly Queretaro. We are only four games into the Clausura campaign, and there is already a seven-point gap between the teams.

More Liga MX Predictions for Round 5

  • Club Tijuana to Beat Mazatlan
  • Club Puebla and Atlas to Draw
  • Guadalajara and Tigres UANL to Draw
  • Toluca to Beat Atletico San Luis
  • Club Leon to Beat Pumas UNAM

Here are the rest of my predictions for Round 5 of the Liga MX 2022 Clausura. As you can see, I’m backing Club Tijuana, Toluca, and Leon to pick up wins this weekend.

Elsewhere, I expect the top-two battle between Puebla and Atlas to end in a draw. Both sides have collected three wins and a draw from their opening four games, while both goalkeepers have conceded just two goals.

I can also see Guadalajara and Tigres UANL sharing the points this weekend. They sit fifth and sixth, respectively, having both recorded two wins, one draw, and one defeat this year.

Best Round 5 Liga MX Bets

Mazatlan vs. Club Tijuana – Club Tijuana to Win2.70
Cruz Azul vs. Necaxa – Over 2.5 Goals2.10
Club Puebla vs. Atlas – Both Teams to Score2.10

In my eyes, backing Club Tijuana to beat Mazatlan is a no-brainer – especially when you look at the juicy price for the away win. Let’s not forget that Mazatlan has suffered three successive defeats so far this term.

I predicted that Cruz Azul will beat Necaxa, but the odds for the home win are nothing to write home about. Instead, I recommended opting for the over 2.5 goals marks. All of Necaxa’s Clausura games have produced over 2.5 goals this year.

The bookmakers can barely separate Puebla (2.60) and Atlas (2.75) ahead of Friday’s clash. That is one of the main reasons why I predicted that Puebla and Atlas will dish up a draw. Yet, looking at their scoring records, the both teams to score market offers great value here.
