Predictions and Best Bets for the Liga MX Apertura Quarterfinals – November 24-25 (2021)

The 2021 Liga MX Apertura quarterfinals get underway on Wednesday, November 24. Following last weekend’s playoffs, just eight teams remain in contention for the title.
El Clasico Capitalino is undoubtedly the standout clash of the quarterfinals, as Club America and Pumas UNAM reignite their rivalry. The other three games are pretty tasty, too!
Let’s take a look at the schedule in full before getting stuck into my predictions for the Liga MX Apertura quarterfinals.
- Club America vs. Pumas UNAM
- Tigres UANL vs. Santos Laguna
- Atlas vs. Monterrey
- Club Leon vs. Club Puebla
After sharing my Liga MX predictions, I will provide my best bets for the Apertura quarterfinals. Stay tuned for some top Liga MX betting tips!
Club America to Beat Pumas UNAM
There is absolutely no denying that Club America has been the best team in Liga MX this year.
The Eagles lost just two of their 17 regular-season games, picking up ten wins and five draws along the way. They also boast the joint-best defensive record in the league.
The Pumas booked their spot in the quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory over Toluca in the previous round. They have now won five of their last seven games, gathering plenty of momentum in the process.
That said, Pumas UNAM’s recent Clasico Capitalino record isn’t pretty. Andres Lillini’s men have failed to win any of their past six Liga MX meetings with America, losing each of the previous two without scoring.
I expect the Pumas to put up a decent fight on Wednesday, but I’m confident that America will come out on top.
Tigres UANL to Beat Santos Laguna
The Tigers head into the quarterfinals on a run of three wins in four matches. They netted a combined total of eight goals in victories over Pachuca, Guadalajara, and Juarez.
Last time out, Nicolas Lopez bagged a brace in an easy 3-0 win against Juarez. As a result, the Uruguayan has now notched more goal involvements than any other player in the 2021 Apertura campaign.
- Nicolas Lopez, Tigres UANL – 9 goals, 2 assists (11)
- German Berterame, Atletico San Luis – 9 goals, 1 assist (10)
- Julian Quinones, Atlas – 5 goals, 5 assists (10)
Santos Laguna comes into the postseason in good form, too. The Warriors also won three of their previous four matches and have lost just one of their last eight.
Still, let’s not forget that Tigres finished four points ahead of Santos in the standings. It is also worth noting that Miguel Herrera’s men have both scored more and conceded fewer goals this term.
With that in mind, I’m backing the Tigers to edge out Santos in the first leg.
Atlas and Monterrey to Draw
Atlas claimed two big wins at the end of the regular season. After crushing Atletico San Luis 6-2, they sealed an impressive 2-0 victory over Queretaro to secure second place in the standings.
Thanks largely to the exploits of Camilo Vargas, no team has conceded fewer goals than Atlas this season. The goalkeeper kept nine clean sheets in 17 regular-season outings, giving him a shutout rate of 52.9%.
However, they flexed their muscles last time out – thrashing Cruz Azul 4-1. Rogelio Funes Mori bagged a brace, while former Tottenham Hotspur forward Vincent Janssen also got on the scoresheet.
I can see Atlas and Monterrey playing out a draw on Thursday. With the second leg taking place this weekend, both sides will be happy to avoid defeat.
Club Leon to Beat Club Puebla
Not so long ago, Club Leon was in a real mess. The team endured a six-game winless run between August and October, registering four draws and two losses in that time.
As for Club Puebla, they won five of their final seven regular-season outings before overcoming Guadalajara on penalties in the playoffs.
Nicolas Larcamon’s men came from behind on two occasions to send the game to extra-time. After a goalless overtime period, they triumphed 6-5 on penalties to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals.
Don’t get me wrong, Puebla is enjoying a great run at the moment. But there is no denying that Leon should notch a healthy first-leg advantage on Thursday.
Top Liga MX Picks for the Apertura Quarterfinals
Here are my best bets for the first legs of the Liga MX Apertura quarterfinals. Having scoured the top soccer betting sites, I have found a couple of picks that offer excellent value.
- Club America vs. Pumas UNAM – Club America to Win (1.80)
- Atlas vs. Monterrey – Under 2.5 Goals (2.10)
My first Liga MX pick concerns El Clasico Capitalino. I’m backing Club America to get the better of Pumas UNAM, simply because the Pumas have been nowhere near the Eagles’ level throughout the campaign.
I also expect Atlas and Monterrey to produce less than three goals. This season, just three of Atlas’ 17 games have dished up over 2.5 goals. Meanwhile, only six of Monterrey’s 18 matches have seen more than three goals.
