Prediction and Betting Pick for Jono Carroll vs. Andy Vences

Jono Carroll takes on Andy Vences at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, this Saturday, September 11.
I’ll be covering the odds for Carroll vs. Vences and providing a few top bets for the fight. So stick with me for those.
Ireland’s Carroll was set to take on Vences for the vacant WBC International super-featherweight title earlier this year, only for the fight to be postponed. It was initially slated for the Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos Jr. undercard that was scrapped when the unified lightweight champion tested positive for COVID.
Barring anything extremely unlucky, we’ll get the fight this weekend. So, looking ahead to the clash, I have made my predictions for Carroll vs. Vences and have provided some advice for betting on the bout.
Let’s get to it.
Carroll vs. Vences Predictions
- Winner: Jono Carroll
- Predicted Method of Victory: Decision
My prediction for Jono Carroll vs. Andy Vences is “King Kong” by decision.
As I explain further down, I don’t see much to separate both men in this fight. It’s pretty close for me, with Carroll having the edge.
Why? Well, he is that much busier and has a better engine than his American counterpart. His footwork is also key to beating a man like Vences.
More on that after we take a look over the odds and some betting tips for Carroll vs. Vences.
Latest Odds for Carroll vs. Vences
I’ve taken the Jono Carroll vs. Andy Vences odds from MyBookie.
It’s interesting to note that the line is closer than it was back in June. The odds for Carroll back then were -189, with Vences an intriguing plus-money option at +137.
The line is more indicative of the close fight that it is, meaning that there is less value to be had on Vences.
Hometown favoritism is something we discuss in our boxing betting strategy and should always be considered.
Dublin’s Carroll is coming off a stoppage win over Romic Airapetean in Spain back in March. He is 3-2 from his last five, with losses to Tevin Farmer and Maxi Hughes the only losses of his career to date.
California’s Vences is 19-2-1 with losses to Luis Alberto Lopez Vargas and Albert Bell standing either side of a victory over Mark Bernaldez.
Top Betting Picks for Carroll vs. Vences
The first of my top bets for Jono Carroll vs. Andy Vences is for the fight to go over the 8.5 round mark.
It’s hardly a free car giveaway at -350, but I consider it a lock. Neither man has been knocked out in their respective careers, and the pair don’t carry major stopping power. It’s one to think about it, for sure.
The Irishman to win at odds of -120 is another top bet for Carroll vs. Vences. You’re getting great value here compared to the -189 you would have got if you had backed him to win back in June.
Finally, +150 for Carroll to win by decision is, once again, good value.
You will struggle to find much better on any of the other top boxing betting sites, but it’s always worth shopping lines ahead of fights like this.
So, let’s expand on my prediction for Carroll vs. Vences.
Why Bet On Jono Carroll?
I don’t expect the Irishman to steamroll Vences on the night.
It should be a really good fight with Carroll coming through on the judges’ scorecards with the win. His style is very busy, and I expect him to take at least four rounds of the first six.
From the midway point onward, he should find Vences a little more aggressive and willing to exchange. But with a decent already built up, it should be a case of boxing smart and keeping the American guessing.
Providing the Dubliner is well conditioned, he should just be far too busy for the Californian.
Now, I know some might be concerned about Vences fighting in front of a home crowd and how that could favor him in the event of a close fight. That essentially explains the drop in his price, as previously mentioned, and is something to think about, given the fact that the fight is highly likely to go the distance.
Ultimately, my betting pick for Carroll to win by decision makes the most sense here. Vences does have a solid jab, but that’s only as strong as his ability to cut the ring off. In this fight, he’s going to find that hard to do.
