Prediction and Pick for the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix – Sunday, April 10 (2022)
The Formula 1 roadshow heads Down Under this weekend. On Sunday, April 10, Melbourne’s Albert Park Circuit will stage the third race of the 2022 F1 season.
Charles Leclerc finds himself atop the early World Drivers’ Championship standings. The Ferrari driver won the opening race before finishing second to a resurgent Max Verstappen in Saudi Arabia a fortnight ago. Who will come out on top this time around?
You can find my Australian Grand Prix prediction below, along with my pick for Sunday’s showdown. First, let’s find out what the best Formula 1 betting apps make of the race.
Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix Odds
If you watched the opening two Grand Prix of the season, you probably won’t be surprised that Max Verstappen (2.25) and Charles Leclerc (2.50) are the bookmakers’ favorites to triumph in Australia.
Leclerc dominated proceedings in Bahrain before pushing Verstappen all the way in Saudi Arabia. However, the defending champion flexed his muscles last time out – finishing 0.5 seconds ahead of Leclerc.
Lewis Hamilton (13.00) and Sergio Perez (13.00) are priced equally. Hamilton snatched P3 in Bahrain but slipped to tenth in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Perez recovered from a DNF in the first race to finish fourth last time out.
Following finishes of P4 and P5, George Russell (26.00) is the only other driver priced under 101.00. The other 14 drivers are priced between 101.00 and 1501.00 at Betway.

Top Picks for the Australian Grand Prix
In the eyes of the top Formula 1 betting sites, there are only six realistic contenders to win the Australian GP. That tells you everything you need to know about the dominance of Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes.
Before we settle on a prediction and pick for the Australian GP, we need to take a closer at the Australian Grand Prix betting favorites.
Max Verstappen (2.25)
It’s fair to say that Verstappen’s title defense started in disappointment. The Red Bull star was forced to retire in Bahrain due to mechanical problems, leaving Leclerc, Sainz, and Hamilton to snatch the podium places.
A fortnight ago, Perez secured the first pole position of his F1 career. The Ferrari pair of Leclerc and Sainz also outqualified Verstappen. But the reigning champ came from fourth on the grid to clinch the chequered flag.
Charles Leclerc (2.50)
Leclerc finished more than five seconds ahead of his teammate to win the opening race of 2022. Last time out, he finished just half a second behind Verstappen. I think we can call that a strong start to the season, right?
The Monaco native widened the gap between him and Sainz in Saudia Arabia, finishing 7.5 seconds ahead of his teammate. Let’s not forget that Leclerc and Sainz are driving exactly the same car.
Carlos Sainz (9.00)
Of course, Sainz won’t be disappointed with finishes of P2 and P3 in the first two races. But he will need to take things up a gear or two if he wants to get closer to Verstappen and Leclerc.
Lewis Hamilton (13.00)
Hamilton was priced at 3.50 to win the first Grand Prix of 2022. A fortnight ago, he was priced at 11.00 to triumph in Saudi Arabia. Having finished tenth last time out, Hamilton’s odds to win the Australian Grand Prix are 13.00.
Sergio Perez (13.00)
Perez produced a phenomenal lap to register his first-ever F1 pole in Saudia Arabia. Still, he ended up finishing the race in fourth place – 10.8 seconds behind his teammate and winner, Verstappen.
George Russell (26.00)
It’s a case of so far so good for Russell in 2022. The 24-year-old is enjoying a solid debut season at Mercedes, having finished fourth in Bahrain and fifth in Saudi Arabia.
As it stands, Russell finds himself six points clear of Hamilton in the World Drivers’ Championship standings. Although he will be happy to be ahead of his new teammate, he is still 23 points behind Leclerc.
My Australian Grand Prix Prediction and Pick
I’m backing the defending champ to reign supreme in Melbourne. After recording a DNF in Bahrain, Verstappen bounced back in style last time out.
As the Australian Grand Prix odds suggest, Leclerc is set to push Verstappen all the way this weekend. Still, I’m confident that Verstappen will utilize all of his ability to outperform the chasing Ferrari.
