Prediction and Best Bets for Derrick Lewis vs. Cyril Gane at UFC 265

Derrick Lewis and Cyril Gane go to war for the interim heavyweight title this Saturday, August 7, at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
You probably already know that. But were you aware that the latest UFC 265 odds for Lewis vs. Gane has “The Black Beast” as a serious underdog?
Gane, who has yet to lose in the promotion, is just one win away from a title shot with Francis Ngannou. But if my top bets for Lewis vs. Gane are anything to go by, there could be an upset on the night and a potential rematch on the cards.
I’ll be talking you through those bets for UFC 265’s headliner in this preview of the fight. I’ll also be hitting you with my predictions and betting pick for Gane vs. Lewis.
So, sit down, make yourself comfortable, and we’ll get going.
Lewis or Gane – Who Wins at UFC 265?
- Derrick Lewis by KO/TKO
Cyril Gane might have the advantages in most departments. But he is taking on one of the most dangerous men in the division.
The right hand of the Louisiana-native right has put away some seriously good fighters in the past. But I’m not basing my predictions for Lewis vs. Gane entirely on the former landing flush. Or am I?
We’ll get to my analysis of UFC 265’s heavyweight battle after I take you through the odds and best bets to place on the fights this weekend.
Latest Odds for Lewis vs. Gane
A bet on Gane to beat Lewis gets you -330 with Bovada.
The Frenchman’s implied odds are 76.74% as more than a 3/1 favorite. I see Gane’s odds, and I’m thinking to myself, is there something wrong here?
Look, I know Gane is one of the best heavyweights on the planet. But are back-to-back decision wins over Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Alexander Volkov — in addition to an overall 9-0 record amassed in a few years — enough to justify such a short price against a dangerous knockout artist?
I don’t think so.
Now, if you cast your eyes over the odds for Lewis to beat Gane, you will find something worth taking a shot at.
I always try to stress the importance of learning how to find value in betting odds. Well, this is a good example of playing for value rather than sticking with the bookies’ favorite. Just because.
Let’s quickly go over my top wagers for Lewis vs. Gane at UFC 265 before I break this one down for you.
Best Bets for Lewis vs. Gane
Gane has never been knocked out in the UFC.
But can’t the same be said for every other fighter that has bitten the dust before they were sparked? It’s the nature of the beast, right?
That said, the nature of The Black Beast is to lay his opponents out. He has 20 KO/TKOs from 25 fights in his career, including back-to-back stoppages over Oleksei Oleinki and former #2 contender Curtis Blaydes. He is 12-3 from his last 15.
The longshot bet for UFC 265 is Lewis to win by KO/TKO in Round 2.
Those odds above, available at the best UFC sportsbooks, are super appealing. Especially with my Lewis vs. Gane predictions and pick falling toward the more experienced man’s side of the line.
Why Lewis Beats Gane
Although “My balls was hot” Lewis is something of a cult hero in the UFC, he’s not exactly a joke.
Still, he’s certainly being underestimated in this fight.
The former UFC title challenger is a lot better than the odds for UFC 265 suggest. He is one of just two fighters in the UFC to beat the incumbent champion, Francis Ngannou, and has a phenomenal knack of laying folks out. He might not be the most technically advanced mixed martial artist out there, but he is effective.
He is like a jaguar when it comes to biding his time and pouncing on the right opportunity. It takes just one slip up from Gane to provide the American with the window of opportunity he needs. And when that happens, “Bon Gamin” will feel as though he has been hit by a truck.
I’m loving the value in Derrick’s odds to win at UFC 265. I really think we could see yet another famous derailing of a hype train this Saturday.
As much as I like Gane and consider him a class act, power is the great equalizer at this level. Thus, my betting pick for Lewis vs. Gane is a win for The Black Beast.
Ready to Bet on Gane vs. Lewis?
You know I’m picking Derrick Lewis in this contest.
The odds are just too sweet to pass up, especially with his brutal knockout power, his advantage of experience, as well as the fact that he has fought for the title fairly recently.
