Prediction for Atlas vs. Pachuca – Liga MX Clausura Final (Thursday, May 26, 2022)

| May 24, 2022 6:11 am PDT

The first leg of the 2022 Liga MX Clausura final is set to go down this Thursday, May 26. Atlas and Pachuca will go head-to-head at the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara, with the second leg scheduled for Sunday.

First-place Pachuca finished 11 points clear of third-place Atlas in the standings, but the table counts for nothing now. This is a straight shootout for the title between two of Mexico’s top teams.

You can find my Atlas vs. Pachuca prediction below, along with a free betting pick for the first leg. Before we get to my prediction and pick, though, we need to break down the latest Liga MX odds and analyze both sides.

Atlas vs. Pachuca Betting Odds

Atlas to Win2.80
The Draw2.85
Pachuca to Win2.55

As you can see, Atlas (2.80) and Pachuca (2.55) can barely be separated by 10Bet. Pachuca heads into the first leg as the bookmakers’ marginal favorite, but Atlas isn’t far behind.

The solid price for the draw (2.85) is bound to attract plenty of attention, given that both teams will be eager to avoid defeat in the first leg. I expect Thursday’s clash to be a tense and cagey encounter, so the draw stands out to me at first glance.

Whether you’re into that bet or not, 10Bet is arguably the top spot to hit up for this match. Take a closer look at the site via our review, or head there to bet now.

Atlas Preview – Will Los Zorros Win Back-to-Back Titles?

Atlas comes into the first leg on the back of a 4-2 defeat to Tigres UANL. But thanks to a 3-0 victory in the first leg of their semi-final, they claimed a 5-4 aggregate win to book their place in the final.

Julio Furch, Luis Reyes, and Julian Quinones grabbed the goals in the first leg before Quinones scored again in the second leg. Remarkably, Los Zorros punched their ticket to the showpiece via a 100th-minute strike from Aldo Rocha.

It is worth noting that Atlas was enjoying a six-game unbeaten streak before losing to Tigres. If they can rediscover the kind of form that got them into the final, they will be difficult to beat.

Diego Cocca’s boys lost just four of their 17 regular-season games, picking up seven wins and six draws in the process. They also registered the joint-best defensive record, alongside Pachuca.

Let’s not forget that Cocca’s boys are also the reigning Apertura champions. Having triumphed over Club Leon back in December, they know what it takes to navigate their way through the finals and win silverware.

Los Zorros ended their 70-year wait for a Liga MX title at the end of 2021. Can they clinch two titles in the space of six months?

Pachuca Preview – Can Los Tuzos Gain a First-Leg Advantage?

There is no denying that Pachuca has been the strongest team throughout the Clausura campaign. After finishing atop the standings, Los Tuzos dispatched Atletico San Luis (5-4) and Club America (4-1) on their way to the final.

Not only did they finish the regular season with the joint-best defensive record, but they also notched the joint-best offensive record. That tells you everything you need to know about their strength at both ends of the field.

No goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than Pachuca’s Oscar Ustari this season. Having kept eight clean sheets in 20 games, Ustari boasts a shutout rate of 40%.

  • Oscar Ustari, Pachuca – 8
  • Guillermo Ochoa, Club America – 8
  • Esteban Andrada, Monterrey – 7
  • Alfredo Talavera, Pumas UNAM – 6
  • Nahuel Guzman, Tigres UANL – 6

At the opposite end of the pitch, Nicolas Ibanez (9 goals, 2 assists), Victor Guzman (6 goals, 3 assists), and Aviles Hurtado (3 goals, 4 assists) have remained a constant threat in attack.

Pachuca clinched back-to-back Clausura crowns in 2006 and 2007 before triumphing again in 2016. If their performances in 2022 are anything to go by, they could easily add another title to their collection this year.

Atlas vs. Pachuca Prediction

This matchup brings together the two best defenses in the league. Both sides conceded just 15 regular-season goals, and both sides registered clean sheets in the semi-finals.

For that reason, I expect Thursday’s clash to be a low-scoring affair. Both teams will be eager to head into the second leg without too much of a deficit, so I expect the managers and players to approach the first leg with caution.

Only one team registered more regular-season draws than Atlas. With that in mind, I wouldn’t be surprised if Los Zorros frustrated Pachuca on home soil.

Betting Pick for Atlas vs. Pachuca

My Pick: Draw (2.85)Bet on this match at 10Bet

Having taken everything into consideration, the draw feels like the best bet for the first leg of the 2022 Liga MX Clausura final. Ultimately, both sides will be desperate to avoid defeat on Thursday with the second leg still to play.
