Pohang Steelers vs. Sangju Sangmu – K League 1, November 1, 2020

| October 29, 2020 3:01 pm PDT

This is one of the few games in K League 1 this weekend that has absolutely nothing riding on it. Because of Pohang’s far superior goal tally between the two, there is not even a battle for third place to look forward to.

But that could make for an exciting game, especially considering how the last meeting between these two sides finished.

Pohang Steelers vs. Sangju Sangmu Odds

Pohang Steelers to Win-120
The Draw+248
Sangju Sangmu to Win+262

BetOnline has the home side the big favorite to finish off the season in style in its own stadium. But I think that the army team might be up for a spot of revenge after the very late goal that decided this pair’s last meeting. The odds for the draw or away win bets look very interesting to me.

Pohang Steelers vs. Sangju Sangmu Preview

Pohang Steelers thought that it had earned a point last weekend when Stanislav Iljutcenko scored with just five minutes to go to level the game with Daegu. But the home side found the net just one minute later to take all three points. The hard work has already been done by Pohang though, so there will be few long faces at the Steel Yard.

The main priority at the beginning of the season would have been to qualify for the AFC Champions League and push Jeonbuk and Ulsan at the top of the table. Pohang never really challenged for the title in the end, but it has looked the best of the rest and has led the chasing pack all year.

Sangju Sangmu has also enjoyed a very good season – and has been one of the most impressive teams in K League 1. With relegation already decided because of the club’s relocation for next year, the way that the players have still gone out and got the job done has been to manager Kim Tae-wan’s credit.

The military side has managed to beat everyone apart from Jeonbuk and Ulsan in the Championship group of fixtures and will be looking to show its skill on Saturday at the Steel Yard. The players have shown a determined united front throughout this campaign and a positive result this weekend cannot be discounted.

My Prediction and Betting Pick

  • Sangju Sangmu to Win

This prediction is more of a gut feeling than some of the others, but I feel that Pohang Steelers will feel as though its aims have been achieved this year – and may well be winding down now. That never really seems to be the case for Sangju Sangmu though, so that’s why I’m going for the away win.
