Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Dallas Cowboys – NFL Week 9, 2020

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still the only unbeaten team in the NFL after eight weeks as they passed another stern test. This time around, they beat the divisional rivals Baltimore Ravens on the road and will have a much easier job to do on Sunday when they take on the struggling Dallas Cowboys. With a 7-0 record, the Steelers are at the top of the AFC North with a couple of wins ahead of Baltimore and the entire AFC.

The Dallas Cowboys, on the other hand, suffered the third consecutive defeat and second in a row to the divisional rivals, as they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football. Without Dak Prescott, who will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury, the Cowboys are looking desperate, and there’s little chance they can make it to the playoffs, despite the NFC South is wide open. They dropped to a 2-6 record, with a win behind the Eagles. Check out my Steelers vs. Cowboys betting pick.

Steelers Secured a Tight Win in Baltimore

The Pittsburgh Steelers showed everybody they are the legitimate title contenders with a 28-24 road victory over the divisional rivals Baltimore Ravens. They let the Ravens know that in the first minute of the game when linebacker Robert Spillane intercepted Lamar Jackson’s pass and returned it for a touchdown. Although the hosts bounced back quickly and went to the break with a 17-7 lead, Big Ben and co. scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter. Baltimore responded once again, but Chase Claypool put the final nail on the Ravens’ coffin with a TD midway through the fourth. The Ravens destroyed the Steelers in total yards (457-221) but committed even four turnovers opposite Pittsburgh’s one.

Ben Roethlisberger completed 21 of 32 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Eric Ebron and Chase Claypool were on the receiving end of his TD passes, while JuJu Smith-Schuster led the team with 67 yards on seven catches. Pittsburgh’s running didn’t work, but James Conner was able to score a rushing TD as he finished the game with 47 yards on 15 carries. Robert Spillane had a game of his career with 11 tackles (ten solos), an interception for a touchdown, and two defended passes, while Stephon Tuitt added nine tackles (eight solos) and a pair of sacks.

The Steelers are the 5th team in the NFL when it comes to the offense with 30.1 points per game, 24th in passing yards (221.0), 16th in rushing yards (118.0), while they have the 6th defense that allows 20.3 points per contest.

Cowboys’ Offense Was Non-Existent in Loss to Eagles

The Dallas Cowboys have gone consecutive games without scoring a touchdown, which is the first time that occurred to Mike McCarthy in the coach’s career in the NFL. After losing 25-3 to Washington, the Cowboys fell to a 23-9 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles on the road on Sunday Night Football. Although they had more yards than Philly (265-222), they rarely reached the endzone, and it was clear that the 7th rounder rookie quarterback Ben DiNucci is not good enough to drive the team forward.

DiNucci completed 21 of 40 passes for 180 yards, and even though he didn’t throw an interception (was close on several occasions, though), he lost two fumbles, one of which was turned into a 55-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Michael Gallup and Dalton Schultz were DiNucci’s favorite targets as they combined for 114 yards on 13 receptions, while Ezekiel Elliott had 63 rushing yards on 19 attempts. Trevon Diggs and Jaylon Smith recorded seven tackles apiece, and Diggs added a pair of interceptions. The defense forced two fumbles and played very well, but that didn’t count in the end.

The Cowboys are the 23rd team in the NFL when it comes to the offense with 23.1 points per game, 1st in passing yards (293.1), 21st in rushing yards (105.8), while they have the worst defense that allows 33.3 points per contest.

Steelers vs. Cowboys Betting Pick

The Cowboys broke numerous negative defensive records in the NFL this season and even though coach McCarthy said after Sunday’s loss to the Eagles that Andy Dalton (concussion) is expected to start against the Steelers, I don’t think that will be very helpful. The Steelers are the best team in football at the moment, and there is no way they will suffer the first defeat of the season to the Cowboys. I am going all-in on the visitors to get an easy victory and cover the spread.

Pick
  • Pittsburgh Steelers -9.5
    -110
