USL Championship Predictions for Saturday, June 25, 2022

It only makes sense to kick things off with one of the standout ties of the round. Here is my prediction for Pittsburgh Riverhounds vs. Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Tampa Bay Rowdies to Beat Pittsburgh Riverhounds

Tampa Bay heads into Saturday’s clash against Pittsburgh on a six-game unbeaten run, having picked up four wins and two draws since their last loss.

The Rowdies kicked off their hot streak with a 5-1 demolition of Phoenix Rising. Funnily enough, their next victory came against Pittsburgh. Just over a month ago, Tampa Bay crushed the Riverhounds 3-1 in Florida.

As it stands, the Rowdies find themselves third in the Eastern Conference – three points clear of fifth-place Pittsburgh.

As for the Riverhounds, they come into this encounter on a five-game winless streak. In addition to losing three of their last five USCL clashes, they have lost six of their previous 11 matches across all competitions.

Given the contrasting form of these two sides, I’m backing Tampa Bay to claim all three points on Saturday.

El Paso Locomotive to Beat New York Red Bulls II

To say that New York Red Bulls II is enduring a bad season would be a colossal understatement. Indeed, the Red Bulls have managed to win only one of their 15 USCL games in 2022 – suffering 11 defeats in the process.

Not only do they have the fewest points in the entire league, but they have also scored the fewest goals. Having found the back of the net just nine times, they average a measly 0.6 goals per game this year.

FEWEST GOALS SCORED – USL CHAMPIONSHIP (2022)

  • New York Red Bulls II – 9
  • Birmingham Legion – 12
  • Charleston Battery – 14
  • Atlanta United 2 – 15
  • Hartford Athletic – 15
  • Loudoun United – 15

By contrast, no team has scored more goals than El Paso this season. El Paso is one of three sides to have netted 31 goals, with Luis Solignac (7 goals, 3 assists), Dylan Mares (5 goals, 5 assists), and Josue Gomez (4 goals, 4 assists) leading the charge.

Better still, the Texans are currently enjoying a six-game unbeaten streak. With that in mind, anything other than a comfortable El Paso win would be a big shock this weekend.

Sacramento Republic to Beat Monterey Bay

While the Red Bulls occupy last place in the East, Monterey Bay sits at the foot of the West. The USLC newcomers have won four and lost ten of their 14 games this year, avoiding a single draw along the way.

Funnily enough, Sacramento Republic is the only Western Conference team with fewer goals than Monterey Bay in 2022. But while Sacramento has conceded just 11 goals, Monterey Bay has conceded 35!

Only one side in the entire league has conceded more goals than Monterey Bay this season. Conversely, Sacramento boasts the second-best defensive record.

After losing only three of their 14 USLC matches in 2022, Mark Briggs’ boys find themselves sixth in the West – 13 points clear of Monterey Bay. They also have multiple games in hand over the majority of the conference.

Within the past month, the Republic has knocked the San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy out of the US Open Cup. With a solitary defeat coming in their previous 11 outings, Briggs’ boys should make light work of lowly Monterey Bay.

More USLC Predictions for Saturday, June 25

  • Louisville City to Beat Hartford Athletic
  • Miami FC and LA Galaxy II to Draw
  • Loudoun United to Beat Orange County
  • FC Tulsa and Charleston Battery to Draw
  • Memphis 901 to Beat Detroit City
  • New Mexico United to Beat Birmingham Legion
  • San Diego Loyal to Beat Indy Eleven
  • Oakland Roots and Atlanta United 2 to Draw

I’m backing Memphis 901, New Mexico United, and San Diego Loyal to win on home soil this weekend. Elsewhere, I expect Louisville City and Loudoun United to secure road victories. I can also see three draws occurring Saturday.

Top USL Championship Betting Picks for Saturday, June 25

  • Hartford Athletic vs. Louisville City – Louisville City to Win (-137)
  • Pittsburgh Riverhounds vs. Tampa Bay Rowdies – Tampa Bay Rowdies to Win (+110)
  • Oakland Roots vs. Atlanta United 2 – Over 2.5 Goals (+100)

I’m backing Louisville and Tampa Bay to win away from home this weekend. Hartford trails LouCity by 18 points in the standings, while in-form Tampa Bay dispatched struggling Pittsburgh with ease last month.

This season, 11 of Atlanta United 2’s 15 USLC games have produced over 2.5 goals. The Georgians have the worst defensive record in the entire league, so I can see them sharing plenty of goals with Oakland.
