Can New York Red Bulls II upset the USL Championship odds when Indy Eleven visits the Big Apple? Will LA Galaxy II maintain their hot streak at the expense of Colorado Springs Switchbacks? I answer those questions below.
Read on to discover my USL Championship predictions for Friday.
USL Championship Predictions for Friday, July 15
Friday’s early kick-off sees the struggling Baby Bulls host Indy Eleven. Let’s kick things off with my New York Red Bulls II vs. Indy Eleven Prediction and work our way through the rest.
New York Red Bulls II vs. Indy Eleven Prediction
There is no hiding the fact that New York Red Bulls II is the worst team in the USL Championship.
With 18 games in the books, Ibrahim Sekagya’s boys have a solitary win to their name. Having suffered a whopping 14 defeats this year, they find themselves rock bottom of both the Eastern Conference and overall standings.
The Baby Bulls have conceded 39 goals this season, meaning they average 2.2 goals against per game. Only one team – Atlanta United 2 – has a worse defensive record.
At the opposite end of the field, the situation is even worse. Sekagya’s boys have only managed to bag nine goals in 2022 (0.5 goals per game), meaning they are the league’s lowest scorers by a considerable margin.
- New York Red Bulls II – 9
- Charleston Battery – 18
- Loudoun United – 18
- Hartford Athletic – 20
Meanwhile, Indy Eleven sits ninth in the East – 15 points clear of the Baby Bulls. The Indianans have registered five wins more and five defeats fewer than the New Yorkers, netting more than twice as many goals along the way.
The Boys in Blue enjoyed a run of six wins in eight games between April and June. Granted, they have failed to win any of their previous six outings. But they shouldn’t struggle to return to winning ways against lowly RBNY.
Friday’s clash provides Indy Eleven with the perfect opportunity to get back on track. Naturally, that is not good news for the Baby Bulls.
Colorado Springs Switchbacks vs. LA Galaxy II Prediction
All of a sudden, Colorado Springs and LA Galaxy II are separated by just six points. There was a time earlier in the season when the Switchbacks were miles ahead. But a lot has changed in recent weeks.
The Switchbacks won 11 of their first 13 games, taking 33 points from a possible 39 in the process. During that period, they enjoyed a five-game winning streak – as well as two three-game winning runs.
However, Brendan Burke’s men have taken a turn for the worse of late. Not only have they lost each of their last two games, but they have also lost four of their previous five.
Thanks to their flying start to the season, the Switchbacks still find themselves second in the Western Conference – four points behind San Antonio. But their recent slump is a cause for concern.
- Phoenix Rising – 1
- Colorado Springs Switchbacks – 3
- Orange County – 4
- Monterey Bay – 4
By contrast, LA Galaxy II started the season indifferently but has since turned things around.
The Californians managed to win just four of their opening 13 games, recording three draws and six defeats in that time. Fast-forward to today – they head into Friday’s clash on a run of five victories in seven outings.
Following triumphs over Rio Grande and Monterey Bay, the Galaxy secured three straight wins against Miami FC, Oakland Roots, and San Diego Loyal. Can they extend their winning streak to four games on Friday?
Since Colorado Spring beat the Galaxy 3-1 last month, it will be difficult for the Californians to claim all three points this time around. That said, I can see them snatching a point.
Best USL Championship Picks for Friday, July 15
I have scoured the best soccer betting sites to find the top USL Championship picks for Friday. Let’s wrap things up by going over my recommended wagers.
You probably won’t be surprised to learn that I’m backing Indy Eleven to thrash the New York Red Bulls II. Since the Baby Bulls have one of the worst defensive records in the league, I’m confident that Indy Eleven will win by at least two clear goals.
Colorado Springs Switchbacks and LA Galaxy II have played a combined total of 38 USL Championship games this year, 26 of which have produced over 2.5 goals. For that reason, I expect this clash to be a high-scoring encounter.
