Picks and Predictions for Serie A Round 31 (April 2-4, 2022)

As we head into the business end of the season, AC Milan holds a three-point lead at the Serie A summit. But with Napoli, Inter Milan, and Juventus in hot pursuit, the race for the scudetto looks set to go down to the wire.

Round 31 gets underway on Saturday, April 2. Before we get stuck into my Serie A predictions for Round 31, let’s take a look at the schedule.

Roma returns to action on a nine-game unbeaten streak in Serie A. Prior to the international break, Jose Mourinho’s men beat Atalanta before thrashing arch-rivals Lazio 3-0 last time out.

On the flip side, Marco Giampaolo’s boys have suffered three losses in their last four Serie A outings. When you look at the bigger picture, they have lost nine of their previous 12 encounters across all competitions.

Fifteenth-place Sampdoria trails sixth-place Roma by 22 points. When you couple the Serie A standings with the contrasting form of these two sides, all the signs point towards a Roma victory.

Of course, Roma’s unbeaten run is hugely impressive. But if Roma’s run is impressive, then Juventus’ hot streak is out of this world!

The perennial champions have avoided defeat in each of their previous 16 Serie A games, picking up 11 wins and five draws in the process. They have also lost just one of their last 19 league outings, securing 13 victories along the way.

While the Bianconeri has climbed the standings in recent months, the Nerazzurri has plummeted. Not so long ago, the reigning champions were in pole position to defend their crown. But after winning one of their past seven games, they find themselves six points off the pace.

Ultimately, I can’t see off-form Inter ending Juventus’ hot streak. I’m backing Juve to claim all three points when the defending champs come to town.

As it stands, Milan is in the driving seat. Having picked up 20 wins in 30 league matches this season, the Rossoneri is on course to clinch the scudetto for the first time since 2011.

As for Bologna, they have managed to win just one of their past ten league games. To make matters worse, they have scored a solitary goal across their previous four encounters.

There is no hiding from the fact that first-place Milan leads twelfth-place Bologna by a whopping 33 points. With forwards like Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao in red-hot form for the Rossoneri, I expect Piolo’s men to cruise to victory on Monday.

I’m backing Spezia, Fiorentina, Udinese, and Verona to win on home soil in Round 31. On the flip side, I expect Torino to snatch a road victory over Salernitana. The Garnets sit rock bottom of the standings after losing 18 of their 28 games.

Elsewhere, I can see both Lazio vs. Sassuolo and Atalanta vs. Napoli ending in a draw. Sassuolo trails Lazio by two places, while Atalanta is more than capable of frustrating title-chasing Lazio at the Gewiss Stadium.

Across the past ten rounds, no team has picked up fewer points than Empoli. With that in mind, I’m confident that Fiorentina will extend their 14-point lead over Gli Azzurri on Sunday.

I’m also confident that Verona will get the better of Genoa. Let’s not forget that Genoa trails Verona by 20 points after managing to pick up a solitary victory across the previous 27 rounds!
