Picks and Predictions for Round 17 of the 2022 Liga MX Clausura (April 29-May 1)

It’s all the play for as we head into the final round of the 2022 Liga MX Clausura.

Only the top two teams – Pachuca and Tigres – have secured a place in the playoff quarterfinals, while only the bottom two sides – Queretaro and Juarez – are out of contention for the reclassification. That means the fate of 14 clubs will be decided this weekend.

Round 17 is destined to be a thriller. So, why not make things even more exciting by betting on the action?

The Round 17 Liga MX schedule is stacked with home favorites. In fact, Pachuca and Santos Laguna are the only sides that are favored to win on their travels this weekend.

As you can see, Queretaro, Monterrey, Club America, and Club Leon are the big home favorites. Necaxa, Mazatlan, and Atlas are also favored to win on home soil. Can any of the outsiders upset the Liga MX odds? Let’s time to find out.

It’s time to get stuck into my Liga MX Round 17 predictions. I will start with three featured games before sharing the rest of my predictions for Liga MX Round 17.

It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Club Tijuana has endured a season to forget. Having won just four of their 16 games, Sebastian Mendez’s boys find themselves two points outside the top 12 with one game remaining.

Tijuana heads into Round 17 on a six-game winless run, having recorded three draws and three losses since their last victory. To make matters worse, they have only managed to win one of the previous eight outings.

Although Los Rayados are not firing on all cylinders at the moment, they shouldn’t struggle to overcome lowly Tijuana. I’m backing Monterrey to register a sixth victory in 11 Liga MX games this weekend.

Excuse the pun, but the Eagles are soaring right now. Not only have they won each of their last six matches, but they have also kept five clean sheets across their previous six encounters.

After beating Club Leon 2-0 in Round 15, America claimed a 2-0 win against Tigres UANL last time out. As a result, they find themselves fifth in the Liga MX standings – one point behind third-place Puebla and fourth-place Atlas.

By contrast, Juan Reynoso’s men have lost two of their past three outings. Cruz Azul looks set to suffer a third defeat in four matches against in-form Club America.

Few would argue that Pachuca has not been the best team in the 2022 Clausura. As we head into the final round of the regular season, the league leaders are six points clear of second-place UANL.

The Gophers have lost just two of their 16 games this term, picking up 12 wins and two draws along the way. On top of that, they boast the best offensive record AND the best defensive record in Liga MX.

On the flip side, UNAM heads into Round 17 on the back of two straight losses. The Pumas are in danger of missing the top 12 altogether, so I’m confident that Pachuca will claim all three points this weekend.

I expect both Necaxa vs. Guadalajara and Club Leon vs. Deportivo Toluca to end in a draw. Necaxa and Guadalajara are locked on 23 points and have both won their previous three games.

Elsewhere, I’m backing Mazatlan, Queretaro, Atlas, and Atletico San Luis to secure home wins in Round 17. In my eyes, Betway’s Liga MX odds are spot on. Aside from Pachuca, I can’t see the away teams enjoying much success this weekend.

Pachuca comes into Round 17 on a three-game winning streak. On the other hand, UNAM is enduring a two-game losing run. All the signs point towards a big away victory for Pachuca.

I’m also backing Atletico San Luis to beat Santos Laguna. San Luis has picked up three wins across the past four rounds, while Santos has failed to taste victory since Round 12.

Finally, I expect Club Leon vs. Deportivo Toluca to be a high-scoring encounter. Why? Because 11 of Toluca’s 16 Clausura clashes have produced over 2.5 goals. They also have the worst defensive record in the league.
