Picks and Predictions for MLS Games – Sunday, April 24 (2022)

| April 22, 2022 5:39 am PDT

There are four Major League Soccer games to bet on this Sunday, April 24. With the defending MLS Cup champion (New York City) and current Western Conference leader (LAFC) in action, there are some exciting matchups on the schedule.

Today, I will be taking you through my MLS predictions and picks for Sunday. If you’re planning to wager on Major League Soccer this weekend, my MLS betting tips should give you a head start.

MLS Odds for Sunday, April 24

Let’s kick things off by checking out the Major League Soccer odds for Sunday’s games. I have taken these prices from BetOnline, which is one of the best sportsbooks for MLS odds.

  • Inter Miami (+160) vs. Atlanta United (+170)
  • Orlando City (+140) vs. New York Red Bulls (+215)
  • FC Cincinnati (+250) vs. Los Angeles FC (+100)
  • New York City (-280) vs. Toronto FC (+815)

At first glance, New York City is the safe bet here. The defending MLS Cup champions are heavily favored to beat Toronto, while Inter Miami and Orlando are also favored to win on home soil.

LAFC is the only away favorite on Sunday. The Californians find themselves atop the Western Conference after losing just one of their opening seven games.

MLS Predictions for Sunday, April 24

It’s time to dive into my Major League Soccer predictions for Sunday, April 24. Once my predictions are done and dusted, I will go over the best MLS picks for Sunday’s games.

Inter Miami vs. Atlanta United Prediction

Inter Miami kicked off the campaign with a five-game winless run, recording one draw and four losses along the way. However, they head into Sunday’s clash against Atlanta on the back of two straight victories.

After beating New England 3-2, the Herons claimed a 1-0 win over Seattle last weekend. All of a sudden, things are looking a lot brighter in southern Florida.

Thanks to a run of two losses in seven outings, Atlanta sits fourth in the Eastern Conference – four points clear of thirteenth-place Inter Miami. That said, Gonzalo Pineda’s men have managed to win just one of their past four MLS games.

I can see Inter Miami snatching a draw this weekend. While the Herons have made vast improvements in recent weeks, the Five Stripes have stalled somewhat.

Orlando City vs. New York Red Bulls Prediction

Second-place Orlando City and third-place RBNY are separated by three points in the Eastern Conference. It is worth noting, however, that New York has a game in hand over Orlando.

The Lions are coming off back-to-back shutout victories, having dispatched Chicago Fire (1-0) and Columbus Crew (2-0). That means they have won three of their previous five MLS encounters.

On the flip side, the Red Bulls have only won one of their last five league outings. To make matters worse for Gerhard Struber’s boys, they have managed to score just three goals across their past five matches.

Alexandre Pato has already bagged three goals and two assists this year, while Junior Urso (3 goals, 1 assist) and Ercan Kara (2 goals, 2 assists) have also chipped in. I’m confident that Orlando’s forward line will get the job done against RBNY.

FC Cincinnati vs. Los Angeles FC Prediction

It appears to be business as usual for FC Cincinnati in 2022. Unfortunately, Cincinnati’s usual business is not good.

The Orange & Blue collected three consecutive MLS Wooden Spoons between 2019 and 2021. As they head into their eighth game of the 2022 season, they find themselves third from bottom in the East with only two wins to their name.

By contrast, LAFC is two points clear atop the Western Conference. Having registered five wins, one draw, and one loss, Steve Cherundolo’s men are the early leaders in the race for the Supporters’ Shield.

Anything other than a straightforward LAFC victory would be a big shock here.

New York City vs. Toronto FC Prediction

This matchup brings together two sides that have experienced indifferent starts to the 2022 campaign. Tenth-place New York City trails fifth-place Toronto by four points in the East, also NYCFC has a game in hand on TFC.

The reigning MLS Cup champs have managed to win just two of their six league games this year. That said, they thrashed Real Salt Lake 6-0 last weekend – thanks largely to four goals from Valentin Castellanos.

Meanwhile, the Reds failed to win any of their opening three games before turning things around. TFC heads into Sunday’s showdown on a four-game unbeaten streak, having picked up three wins and one draw since their last loss.

I expect this clash to end in a draw. Both teams have improved of late, meaning this should be a close-fought battle between two in-form sides.

Top MLS Picks for Sunday, April 24

Here are my Major League Soccer picks for Sunday, April 24. Having scoured the top MLS betting sites, I believe these are the best bets for Sunday’s clashes.

Inter Miami vs. Atlanta United – Both Teams to Score-167
Orlando City vs. New York Red Bulls – Orlando City to Win+140
FC Cincinnati vs. Los Angeles FC – Los Angeles FC to Win+100
New York City vs. Toronto FC – Over 2.5 Goals-200

I expect both teams to score when Inter Miami hosts Atlanta. Although the Herons have netted four goals across their past two games, they still have the second-worst defensive record in the East.

In my eyes, backing Orlando and LAFC to win makes perfect sense. I particularly like LAFC’s price of +100 to beat Cincinnati, given the evident gulf in quality between the two sides.

Lastly, I’m backing New York City and Toronto to dish up over 2.5 goals between them. NYCFC crushed RSL 6-0 last weekend before TFC claimed a 6-0 victory over Chattanooga in the US Open Cup.
