Round 2 of the Liga MX Apertura gets underway this Friday, July 8, with Mazatlan and Tigres UANL kicking things off in Sinaloa. All 18 teams are in action this weekend, meaning there is no shortage of Liga MX betting opportunities.

Keep reading to discover my Liga MX predictions for Round 2. You will be pleased to learn that I have also scoured the best soccer betting sites to find the top Liga MX picks for this weekend, so make sure you stick around until the end.

Liga MX Odds for Round 2

Before we jump into my Round 2 Liga MX predictions and betting picks, here are the latest Liga MX odds – courtesy of Betway.

  • Mazatlan (+220) vs. Tigres UANL (+120)
  • Club Tijuana (-110) vs. FC Juarez (+300)
  • Club Puebla (+115) vs. Santos Laguna (+230)
  • Guadalajara (-105) vs. Atletico San Luis (+300)
  • Monterrey (+130) vs. Club America (+210)
  • Cruz Azul (+130) vs. Pachuca (+200)
  • Deportivo Toluca (+210) vs. Atlas (+130)
  • Queretaro (+125) vs. Necaxa (+210)
  • Club Leon (-110) vs. Pumas UNAM (+275)

Only two sides – Tigres UANL and Atlas – are favored to win on the road in Round 2. The other seven clashes have home favorites, although certain teams are expected to find life easier than others this weekend.

Club Tijuana, Guadalajara, and Club Leon are the heavy home favorites. Club Puebla, Monterrey, Cruz Azul, and Queretaro are also expected to claim all three points on home soil.

Round 2 Liga MX Predictions

It’s time to take you through my Liga MX predictions for Round 2. I have decided to cover three standout matchups in detail before providing the remainder of this weekend’s Liga MX predictions.

Tigres UANL to Beat Mazatlan

It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Mazatlan made a terrible start to the Apertura 2022 campaign.

Gabriel Caballero’s boys suffered a 4-2 thrashing at the hands of Puebla last weekend, despite seeing 61% possession. Meanwhile, they allowed Puebla to rack up 18 shots – seven of which hit the target.

Only four teams conceded more goals than Los Canoneros during the Clausura 2022. If they carry on the way they’re going, they will surely register one of the league’s worst defensive records once again.

Granted, Tigres UANL lost 3-2 to Cruz Azul on the opening weekend. But they shouldn’t struggle to overcome Mazatlan. Let’s not forget that UANL finished 12 points clear of Mazatlan last term.

The Tigers racked up 67% possession and 21 shots against Cruz Azul, only to concede a 93rd-minute penalty. Needless to say, they will be eager to make amends for last weekend’s last-gasp loss.

Club Puebla to Beat Santos Laguna

As I already mentioned, Puebla kicked off the campaign with an easy 4-2 victory. Israel Reyes and Fernando Aristeguieta scored within 15 minutes against Mazatlan before Martin Barragan and Amaury Escoto completed the rout after the break

La Franja finished fifth in the Clausura 2022 standings after losing just five of their 17 games. Judging by last weekend’s result, they clearly fancy their chances of reaching the playoffs again.

Meanwhile, Santos Laguna secured a crazy 4-3 win over Monterrey in Round 1. The game produced 36 shots and three penalties, but Brian Lozano had the last laugh in second-half stoppage-time.

It is worth noting, however, that Santos finished fourteenth last term – six points shy of fifth-place Puebla. With that in mind, I’m backing Puebla to get the better of Santos this weekend.

Atlas to Beat Deportivo Toluca

I think Atlas can count themselves pretty fortunate to have recorded a goalless draw with Club America in Round 1. America chalked up 16 attempts, while Atlas registered a solitary shot on target. Still, the points were shared.

Despite last weekend’s fortunate result, the defending champions will be confident of seeing off Deportivo Toluca. Let’s not forget that Atlas finished eight points clear of Toluca in the Clausura 2022 standings.

It is also worth remembering that Toluca registered the worst defensive record last term, conceding 36 goals in 17 games (2.1 goals per game).

I expect Atlas to claim all three points this weekend. With superstars such as Julian Quinones, Aldo Rocha, and Jeremy Marquez leading the way, Los Zorros should exploit Toluca’s leaky backline without any real issues.

More Liga MX Predictions for Round 2

  • Club Tijuana to Beat FC Juarez
  • Guadalajara to beat Atletico San Luis
  • Monterrey and Club America to Draw
  • Cruz Azul and Pachuca to Draw
  • Queretaro to Beat Necaxa
  • Club Leon to Beat Pumas UNAM

I’m backing Club Tijuana, Guadalajara, Queretaro, and Club Leon to win on home soil in Round 2. Elsewhere, I can see both Monterrey vs. Club America and Cruz Azul vs. Pachuca ending in a draw.

Best Liga MX Picks for Round 2

Mazatlan vs. Tigres UANL – Tigres UANL to Win+120
Club Puebla vs. Santos Laguna – Both Teams to Score-125
Monterrey vs. Club America – Both Teams to Score-110
Deportivo Toluca vs. Atlas – Atlas to Win+130

The odds for the Tigres UANL win and the Atlas win are definitely worth taking advantage of here. Granted, they are both away from home this weekend. But I expect them to beat their respective opponents.

I recommend going with the BTTS wager for Club Puebla vs. Santos Laguna and Monterrey vs. Club America. Puebla (4-2) and Santos (4-3) were both involved in crazy Round 1 clashes, while Monterrey was on the receiving end of Santos’ victory.
