Picks and Predictions for the Liga MX Clausura Semifinals (First Legs) – May 18-19, 2022

| May 17, 2022 2:14 am PDT

The first legs of the 2022 Liga MX Clausura semifinals take place this week. Atlas and Tigres UANL go head-to-head on Wednesday, May 18, before Club America and Pachuca face off on Thursday, May 19.

Interesting, all four semifinalists were seeded in the quarterfinals. Having dominated the regular season, few would argue that Atlas, Tigres, America, and Pachuca don’t deserve to be in the semifinals.

Join me as I share my Liga MX predictions and betting picks for the first legs of the 2022 Clausura semifinals. Before we get stuck into those predictions and picks, let’s check out the latest Liga MX odds.

Liga MX Odds – Clausura Semifinals First Legs

  • Atlas (2.50); Draw (3.10); Tigres UANL (2.87)
  • Club America (1.95); Draw (3.40); Pachuca (3.80)

As you can see, Betway believes there is very little between Atlas and Tigres UANL. Although Atlas is the marginal favorite to win the first leg, the Tigers are expected to push the hosts all the way.

The clash between Club America and Pachuca appears to be easier to predict. The Eagles are currently enjoying a ten-game unbeaten streak, so they head into the first leg as the bookmakers’ favorites.

Predictions for the Liga MX Clausura Semifinals (First Legs)

Let’s dive into my Liga MX predictions for the first legs of the Clausura semifinals. Once my predictions are out of the way, I will go over the best Liga MX bets for this week’s clashes.

Atlas vs. Tigres UANL Prediction

Guadalajara pushed Atlas all the way in the quarterfinals, but Diego Cocca’s boys clinched a 3-2 aggregate win. Jeremy Marquez bagged a brace in the first leg. However, the key midfielder will miss Wednesday’s clash through suspension after receiving a red card in the second leg.

The reigning Apertura champions carry a five-game unbeaten streak into the semifinals, having picked up two wins and three draws since their last loss. But can they avoid defeat against free-scoring UANL?

No team netted more regular-season goals than UANL. Thanks largely to the exploits of Andre-Pierre Gignac (9 goals, 2 assists), the Tigers scored 30 goals in 17 regular-season outings.

Still, it is worth noting that six sides conceded fewer goals than UANL. By contrast, Atlas finished the regular season with the joint-best defensive record in the league.

Although Los Zorros don’t score many goals, they always seem to find a way to frustrate their opponents. For that reason, I can see the first leg between Atlas and UANL ending in a draw.

Prediction for Atlas vs. Tigres UANL: Draw

Club America vs. Pachuca Prediction

There is absolutely no denying that Club America is the league’s in-form team right now.

Not only have the Eagles avoided defeat in each of their last ten outings, but they have also won seven of their previous nine. Better still, they kept seven clean sheets across their final eight regular-season clashes.

America secured a 4-3 aggregate victory over Puebla in the quarterfinals. With Fernando Ortiz leading the way, there is no reason why they can’t produce a similar score against Pachuca.

Los Tuzos lost just three of their 17 regular-season games, finishing five points clear atop the standings. However, they were made to work for their place in the semifinals – eventually advancing with a 5-4 aggregate win against Atletico San Luis.

Granted, Guillermo Almada’s men enjoyed an excellent regular-season campaign. But the Eagles are on a different level at the moment. I’m backing America to beat Pachuca on home soil.

Top Liga MX Picks for the Clausura Semifinals

That’s it for this week’s Liga MX semifinal predictions, but I’m not finished just yet. Before I sign off, allow me to share my recommended Liga MX picks with you.

  • Atlas vs. Tigres UANL – Under 2.5 Goals (1.60)
  • Club America vs. Pachuca – Club America to Win (1.95)

I predicted that Atlas and Tigres UANL will play out a draw on Wednesday, but the draw bet is always a risky wager. Instead, I suggest opting for the under 2.5 goal market for this clash.

11 of Atlas’ 17 regular-season produced under 2.5 goals, meaning they ended the campaign with the joint-best defensive record in the league. I expect Wednesday’s clash to be another low-scoring affair.

In my eyes, the price for Club America to beat Pachuca is definitely worth taking advantage of. I mean, the Eagles have won seven of their previous nine Liga MX encounters!
