Picks and Predictions for La Liga Round 34 – April 29-May 2 (2022)

| April 26, 2022 6:57 am PDT

Real Madrid will wrap up the La Liga title with a draw against Espanyol this weekend. With five games remaining this season, Los Blancos find themselves 15 points clear of second-place Barcelona.

Round 34 gets underway on Friday, April 29, with Sevilla hosting Cadiz. While Sevilla is chasing a Champions League place, Cadiz sits just one point outside the relegation zone.

Thanks to the best La Liga betting sites, I have found a handful of top picks for Round 34. Before we get to those picks, we need to assess the odds and go over my La Liga predictions for Round 34.

La Liga Odds for Round 34

  • Sevilla (1.57) vs. Cadiz (6.00)
  • Alaves (3.60) vs. Villarreal (2.05)
  • Real Madrid (1.45) vs. Espanyol (7.00)
  • Valencia (2.25) vs. Levante (3.10)
  • Athletic Bilbao (2.90) vs. Atletico Madrid (2.60)
  • Elche (2.90) vs. Osasuna (2.60)
  • Granada (2.80) vs. Celta Vigo (2.62)
  • Rayo Vallecano (3.30) vs. Real Sociedad (2.30)
  • Barcelona (1.37) vs. Mallorca (7.50)
  • Getafe (2.70) vs. Real Betis (2.80)

According to the La Liga odds at Betway, Sevilla, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are the big favorites in Round 34. It is worth pointing out that Valencia and Getafe are also expected to win one home soil.

On the flip side, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, Osasuna, Celta Vigo, and Real Sociedad are all favored to win away from home this weekend. It is not very often that you get five away favorites in the same round.

Let’s dive into my predictions for La Liga Round 34.

La Liga Predictions for Round 34

Join me as I run through my Round 34 La Liga predictions. After previewing three standout games in detail, I share the rest of my La Liga predictions for this weekend.

Sevilla vs. Cadiz Prediction

To say that Sevilla has enjoyed an impressive season would be an understatement. With five games left, the Andalusians find themselves level with second-place Barca on 63 points after losing just four of their 33 clashes.

Only one team – Real Madrid – has recorded fewer defeats than Sevilla this term. Better still, Julen Lopetegui’s side boasts the best defensive record in Spain’s top tier.

At the opposite end of the La Liga standings, Cadiz sits one point clear of the bottom three after picking up just six victories in 33 outings. To make matters worse for the Pirates, they are the second-lowest scorers in the division.

You probably won’t be surprised to learn that I’m backing Sevilla to ease past low-scoring Cadiz without any major problems.

My Prediction: Sevilla to Beat Cadiz

Real Madrid vs. Espanyol Prediction

Real Madrid needs a single point to win a record 35th La Liga title. Given the evident gulf between Los Blancos and Espanyol, they shouldn’t struggle to claim all three points this weekend.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men head into Round 34 on a four-game winning streak. Led by the relentless Karim Benzema – who has bagged 25 goals and 11 assists in 29 league games this term – the champions-elect look set to notch a fifth straight victory.

As for Espanyol, they have lost three of their past four matches. The Parakeets trail Real Madrid by a whopping 39 points, so I can’t see them avoiding defeat on Saturday.

My Prediction: Real Madrid to Beat Espanyol

Barcelona vs. Mallorca Prediction

Last weekend, Barcelona recorded their second loss in 18 league outings. Although the Catalans suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano at Camp Nou, I expect them to bounce straight back.

Let’s not forget that Xavi’s boys have won eight of their previous ten La Liga games. During that period, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has netted nine goals, including a hat-trick against Valencia and a brace against Real Madrid.

By contrast, Mallorca has registered eight losses across the past ten rounds. To put things into perspective, Barca has suffered only six defeats in 33 matches this season.

The Balearic Islanders find themselves just two points outside the relegation zone, having lost over 50% of their games in 2021-22. That’s why I’m backing Barcelona to return to winning ways this weekend.

My Prediction: Barcelona to Beat Mallorca

More Round 34 La Liga Predictions

  • Villarreal to Beat Alaves
  • Valencia to Beat Levante
  • Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid to Draw
  • Elche and Osasuna to Draw
  • Celta Vigo to Beat Granada
  • Real Sociedad to Beat Rayo Vallecano
  • Real Betis to Beat Getafe

The rest of my La Liga predictions for Round 34 are listed above. I’m backing Villarreal, Celta Vigo, Real Sociedad, and Real Betis to secure road wins this weekend. I’m also backing Valencia to win the Derby del Turia against Levante.

I wouldn’t be surprised if both Athletic Bilbao vs. Atletico Madrid and Elche vs. Osasuna ended in a draw. No team has drawn more games than Bilbao this season, while six points separate Elche and Osasuna.

Top La Liga Picks for Round 34

  • Alaves vs. Villarreal – Villarreal to Win (2.05)
  • Valencia vs. Levante – Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals (2.15)
  • Rayo Vallecano vs. Real Sociedad – Under 2.5 Goals (1.75)

Alaves sits rock bottom of the La Liga table after suffering five defeats in six outings. Seventh-place Villarreal leads Alaves by 27 points, so I fully expect the Yellow Submarine to sink the relegation strugglers.

This season, both teams have scored in 67% of Valencia’s games. Since Levante has the worst defensive record in the division, Saturday’s Derby del Turia is destined to be a spicy affair.

Finally, 25 of Real Sociedad’s 33 games have produced under 2.5 goals this term. Given that only 36% of Rayo Vallecano’s games have dished up over 2.5 goals, all the signs point towards a low-scoring encounter here.
