Pick and Prediction for Sporting KC vs. New England Revs – Sunday, June 12, 2022

| June 7, 2022 3:23 am PDT

Sporting Kansas City and New England Revolution will both be looking to improve their lowly league positions when they go head-to-head at Children’s Mercy Park on Sunday, June 12.

Both sides find themselves in the bottom seven of the overall MLS standings, with Sporting KC trailing New England by three points. The Wizards are rock bottom of the Western Conference, while the Revs sit eleventh in the East.

This Sporting Kansas City vs. New England Revolution betting preview contains odds, team news, analysis, my prediction, and a free pick. Let’s start with the odds and work our way through the rest.

Sporting Kansas City vs. New England Revolution Odds

Sporting Kansas City to Win+187
The Draw+250
New England Revolution to Win+125

According to the MLS odds at BetOnline, New England is favored to beat Sporting KC. However, the high prices suggest that both sides are capable of claiming all three points at Children’s Mercy Park.

Given that both teams will be desperate to avoid defeat on Sunday, the juicy price for the draw is certainly worth considering. It is worth noting that SCK and New England have racked up eight draws between them in 2022.

SKC vs. Revs Head-to-Head (Past 10 MLS Meetings)

  • New England Revolution Wins: 6
  • Sporting Kansas City Wins: 3
  • Draws: 1

As you can see, the Revs have enjoyed plenty of success against Sporting Kansas City in recent years – winning six of the previous ten MLS encounters between the teams.

The Wizards have failed to beat New England in their past four league meetings, suffering three defeats in the process. When the teams last met back in 2019, they produced a wild 4-4 draw in Kansas City.

Before we settle on a Sporting Kansas City vs. New England Revolution prediction and pick, we need to take a closer look at both sides.

Sporting Kansas City Preview

Six months ago, Sporting KC finished third in the West before reaching the Conference Semifinals. Fast-forward to today – Peter Vermes men find themselves rock bottom of the standings.

The Wizards have managed to win just three of their 15 league games this year, recording four draws and eight losses along the way. No team in Major League Soccer has suffered more defeats than SKC in 2022.

In addition to having the second-worst defensive record in the West, Vermes’ men are the lowest scorers in the conference. It doesn’t get much worse than that.

FEWEST GOALS SCORED – WESTERN CONFERENCE (2022)

  • Sporting Kansas City – 13
  • Seattle Sounders – 15
  • Minnesota United – 15
  • Vancouver Whitecaps – 16
  • Colorado Rapids – 16

Johnny Russell has netted six goals this season, while Daniel Salloi has contributed four goals and two assists. However, their teammates have failed to deliver. Their overreliance on Russell and Salloi is a cause for concern.

The Wizards have picked up one victory in their previous ten MLS outings, registering four draws and five defeats in the process. If they don’t turn things around quickly, they can wave goodbye to their playoff hopes.

New England Revolution Preview

Like Sporting KC, the Revs enjoyed a hugely successful 2021 campaign before struggling to find their feet in 2022.

Bruce Arena’s boys clinched the 2021 Supporters’ Shield in record-breaking style, amassing the most regular-season points in MLS history. However, they currently sit two points outside the top seven in the East following an inconsistent start to the season.

New England has registered four wins, four draws, and five losses this year – highlighting their inconsistency. They have also conceded 23 goals, meaning they have one of the worst defensive records in the East.

MOST GOALS CONCEDED – EASTERN CONFERENCE (2022)

  • Toronto FC – 27
  • CF Montreal – 26
  • FC Cincinnati – 25
  • New England Revolution – 23
  • DC United – 23

It is worth pointing out, however, that Arena’s boys have upped their game in recent weeks. After losing four of their first six games, they have only lost one of their previous seven.

Better still, the Revs head into Sunday’s clash on a five-game unbeaten streak. Thanks to wins over Inter Miami and Cincinnati, along with draws against Columbus, Atlanta, and Philadelphia, the reigning Supporters’ Shield champs are heading in the right direction.

Sporting Kansas City vs. New England Revolution Prediction

While the Revs have avoided defeat in each of their last five MLS outings, the Wizards have managed to win just one of their previous ten. Both sides started the season in poor form, but New England has made drastic improvements of late.

It is also worth noting that New England has enjoyed plenty of success on the road in recent weeks. After holding Atlanta to a 2-2 draw at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Arena’s boys beat Cincy 3-2 in Ohio.

I expect Sporting Kansas City and New England to dish up a scrappy encounter on Sunday, but I’m confident that New England will come out on top. At the end of the day, the Wizards are in a real mess right now.

Pick for Sporting Kansas City vs. New England Revolution

Pick
  • New England Revolution to Win
    +125

Given their five-game unbeaten streak, the Revs’ odds of +125 are extremely generous. Since the Wizards have claimed a solitary victory across their past ten outings, I recommend jumping on this price before the bookies change their minds.

Due to the international break, there are only three Major League Soccer games this weekend. If you enjoyed this betting preview, be sure to check out my betting previews for Saturday’s games below.
