Pick and Prediction for New England vs. Orlando (MLS) – Wednesday, June 15, 2022

| June 14, 2022 3:26 am PDT

As the international break draws to a close, we have an exciting midweek Major League Soccer matchup to look forward to. On Wednesday, June 15, the New England Revolution welcomes Orlando City to Gillette Stadium.

The two sides are separated by two points in the Eastern Conference, with fifth-place Orlando leading eighth-place New England. However, the Revs are the in-form team – having avoided defeat in each of their past six MLS outings.

This New England Revolution vs. Orlando City betting preview contains odds, head-to-head stats, team news, and analysis. Once I’ve covered all the bases, I will then share my prediction and pick for Wednesday’s showdown.

New England Revolution vs. Orlando City Odds

New England Revolution to Win-150
The Draw+315
Orlando City to Win+409
Over 2.5 Goals-143
Under 2.5 Goals+110

Despite Orlando’s two-point lead over the Revs, BetOnline views New England as the clear favorite to claim all three points on home soil. Can the Lions upset the MLS odds in Foxborough?

As you can see, I have also decided to include a couple of goal-based wagers for you to consider. Given the tight gap between these two sides in the standings, it may be a smart idea to steer clear of the moneylines.

Before we take a closer look at the teams and settle on a New England vs. Orlando prediction and pick, let’s check out the head-to-head record.

New England vs. Orlando Head-to-Head (MLS)

  • New England Revolution Wins: 6
  • Draws: 6
  • Orlando City Wins: 2

It’s fair to say that Orlando has not enjoyed playing against New England over the years. Indeed, the Lions have only managed to claim two MLS wins over the Revs since joining the league in 2015.

New England has recorded 12 undefeated results in 14 MLS meetings with Orlando, picking up six wins and six draws. It is also worth noting that Bruce Arena’s boys currently enjoy a seven-game unbeaten run in this fixture.

It’s time to analyze both sides.

Will the Revs Extend Their Unbeaten Streak?

It is no secret that New England made a terrible start to the 2022 Major League Soccer season. Despite clinching the Supporters’ Shield last year, they lost five of their first eight games this term.

Since then, however, the Revs have rediscovered their form.

Thanks to wins over Inter Miami, Cincinnati, and Kansas City – as well as draws against Columbus, Atlanta, and Philadelphia – Arena’s boys head into Wednesday’s clash on a six-game unbeaten streak. All of a sudden, things are looking up.

  • CF Montreal: 28
  • New York City: 25
  • New England Revolution: 24
  • New York Red Bulls: 24
  • FC Cincinnati: 21
  • Toronto FC: 21

Only two teams in the East – Montreal and New York City – have scored more goals than New England this season. Adam Buksa has already netted seven goals in ten MLS appearances, while Carles Gil has contributed three goals and five assists.

Granted, the Revs have the fourth-worst defensive record in the conference. But they will continue to climb the standings if they carry on outscoring their opponents.

Can the Lions Return to Winning Ways?

Orlando comes into Wednesday’s meeting on the back of a disappointing 3-1 home loss to FC Dallas. Despite racking up 15 shots, the hosts were ultimately outplayed by the visitors.

That defeat means the Lions have won one of their last four MLS outings. When you look at the bigger picture, they have won just two of their previous six – suffering three defeats in the process.

It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Orlando has been one of the most inconsistent teams in Major League Soccer this year. Although Oscar Pareja’s men sit fifth in the East, they have only managed to record back-to-back wins on one occasion.

It is also worth noting that only five Eastern Conference teams have picked up fewer draws than Orlando in 2022. This tells us that Pareja’s men win or draw more often than not.

We all know that Orlando’s roster is stacked with top players, such as Alexandre Pato, Ercan Kara, and Facundo Torres. But if they don’t discover some consistency soon, they will find themselves sliding down the standings.

New England Revolution vs. Orlando City Prediction

There is no hiding the fact that New England heads into this clash in far better form than Orlando. While the Revs have avoided defeat in each of their last six MLS outings, the Lions have lost three of their previous six.

That said, Orlando is more than capable of frustrating New England. Having already sealed shutout victories over Montreal, LA Galaxy, Chicago, Columbus, and Toronto this year, the Floridians will fancy their chances of getting something from Wednesday’s game.

Of course, backing New England to avoid defeat makes a lot of sense. But I’m also wary of Orlando’s threat. For that reason, I recommend exploring the goal-based wagers.

Betting Pick for New England vs. Orlando

  • Over 2.5 Goals

Backing New England to win at -150 is not the worst idea in the world. However, the over 2.5 goals wager offers slightly better value.

Seven of New England’s last nine MLS games have produced over 2.5 goals. On top of that, ten of their 14 league games this season have dished up over 2.5 goals. That’s why I expect this clash to be a high-scoring affair.
