Philadelphia Union vs. New England Revolution – MLS, November 8, 2020

| November 5, 2020 12:04 pm PDT

Philadelphia can clinch the Supporters’ Shield with a victory over New England when the two sides face off at Subaru Park on Sunday, November 8.

The Revs have all but secured a top-six finish in the Eastern Conference, although the 12-point gulf between them and Philly underlines just how strong the Union has been this year.

After looking at the bookmakers’ odds, I share my prediction and betting pick for Philadelphia Union vs. New England Revolution.

Latest Odds

Philadelphia Union to Win2.05
The Draw3.55
New England Revolution to Win3.40

Considering that Philadelphia (2.05) is flying high at the top of the Eastern Conference, odds of 2.05 for the home win seem very generous here.

New England (3.40) has already faced the U four times this year, with Philly avoiding defeat on every occasion (three wins, one draw).

Philadelphia Union vs. New England Revolution Preview

There is no denying that Philadelphia has been one of the best teams in MLS this season.

No side has won more games or scored more goals in the East than Jim Curtin’s men, and they also boast the joint-best defensive record in the division.

Sergio Santos has arguably been the star of the show for U. The Brazilian forward has contributed ten goals and three assists this term, with five of those goals coming in his last eight appearances. Kacper Przybylko has also been a constant threat, racking up eight goals and six assists.

But it has been a real team effort from Philly this year. Andre Blake has been immense between the sticks, keeping seven regular-season clean sheets, while the entire backline has stood firm throughout the campaign.

Following a lengthy run of just one defeat in 12 games, the Union was finally beaten by Columbus Crew last weekend. Needless to say, Curtin’s men will eager to return to winning ways and get their hands of some silverware on Sunday.

Meanwhile, New England has enjoyed a series of mixed results of late. After losing 2-1 to Philly last month, the Revs drew with Nashville. Bruce Arena’s side then suffered a defeat to New York Red Bulls, but the team showed great spirit to fight back and claim a 4-3 victory over DC United last time out.

The Revs found themselves 2-0 down midway through the first half, yet they managed to turn things around. With the score at 3-3, Teal Bunbury netted his second goal of the game to hand his side all three points.

Bunbury now has four goals in his previous five outings. With the playoffs just around the corner, the forward appears to be hitting form at just the right time.

The Greater Boston club could slip out of the top six if things don’t go their way this weekend, so avoiding defeat must be a priority.

Philadelphia Union vs. New England Revolution Betting Pick

  • Philadelphia Union to Win

The Revs have proved that they can compete with the top teams in the country this year, but I can’t see them spoiling Philadelphia’s Supporters’ Shield party.

Both sides will want to win for different reasons on Sunday. However, the Union’s excellence is likely to shine through.
