Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics Betting Pick – August 17, 2020
The Philadelphia 76ers practically lost all the chances to fight for the NBA championship this season after Ben Simmons’ injury here in the Orlando bubble, but one thing is certain – the Sixers will not give up without a fight.
The Boston Celtics are seen as strong favorites to make it to the second round in the East and also in this game that will tip-off at 6:30 on Monday.
These Atlantic Division rivals have met four times this season, and Philadelphia won three of those encounters, while Boston won the latest tilt, back in February. Take a look at my 76ers vs. Celtics betting pick.
76ers vs. Celtics Odds
|76ers to win||+206|
|Celtics to win||-222|
The Boston Celtics are firm favorites here, according to the sportsbooks and basketball enthusiasts from around the world.
Given that Ben Simmons is injured for the season, this favorite tag is not surprising, so you might consider backing the C’s in this one. As for the totals, these teams usually play low-scoring H2H duels, so I won’t be making any conclusions about points in this matchup.

Philadelphia is playing in a hot and cold form recently; they lost the opening game here in the bubble and then won three in a row only to lose three straight.
Still, the Sixers avoided the fourth consecutive loss with a massive 134-96 victory and finished the regular season in the 6th place behind the Miami Heat. The 76ers are 4-6 ATS in the last ten games, 1-3 ATS as underdogs, and 7-3 O/U in that span.
The Celtics, on the other hand, were on a four-game winning streak before they fell short to the Washington Wizards in, for them, a rather irrelevant game. They secured the 3rd spot in the conference a while ago and could afford to lose that one.
Boston is 3-5-2 ATS in the previous ten, 5-2 ATS as a favorite, and 5-3-2 O/U during that period.

I already mentioned ben Simmons’ injury, which will be Philadelphia’s major problem in this series. Coach Brett Brown doesn’t have any new injury-related concerns, though.
Boston’s fans will be happy to heat that Kemba Walker and Jason Tatum are back in the starting lineup for this clash after missing the previous game due to rest.
Prediction and Pick
I know the Celtics haven’t been a good team to bet on against the spread recently, but I don’t think this -5.5 spread is a big one, so I am backing them to cover it here. The Celtics have a more talented backcourt and forwards, while the Sixers will rely on Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris heavily.
Although the Sixers will probably have an advantage below the rims, I am backing Boston to open the series with a victory.
Boston Celtics -5.5-103
