Perth Glory vs. Newcastle Jets – A-League, March 27, 2021

| March 25, 2021 8:36 am PDT

Perth Glory and Newcastle Jets clash on Saturday, March 27, for a battle at the A-League ladder’s bottom end.

The Jets have lost each of their previous four games and find themselves just four points ahead of last-place Melbourne Victory. On the flip side, the Glory are on a five-match winless run, although they did manage to hold Sydney FC to a draw last time out.

After checking out the odds and giving my prediction, I will share my Perth Glory vs. Newcastle Jets betting pick.

Odds for Perth Glory vs. Newcastle Jets

Perth Glory to Win2.10
The Draw3.65
Newcastle Jets to Win3.15

Perth (2.10) currently sits one place and three points ahead of Newcastle (3.25) in the standings. However, it is worth noting that Richard Garcia’s men have two games in hand over the Jets.

The top-rated online sportsbooks understandably view Perth as the favorite to claim all three points on Saturday, but the high price for the home win suggests that the Glory won’t have it all their way.

I give my Perth vs. Newcastle prediction below.

Perth Team News and Analysis

Perth’s winless run may have been extended to five games on Wednesday, but Garcia’s men can take plenty of positives from their 1-1 draw against Sydney FC.

The Glory gave the defending champions a run for their money last time out, with Bruno Fornaroli getting on the scoresheet once again. The Uruguayan forward has now netted eight goals in 11 matches this season, making him the second-highest scorer in the A-League.

Indeed, scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for Perth this term.

Despite sitting third from the bottom in the standings, only one team – Adelaide United – has scored more goals than Garcia’s side.
But at the other end of the pitch, things have not been going so well.

Having conceded 24 goals in 11 outings this season, Perth has the second-worst defensive record in the A-League.

Still, the Western Australians can take confidence from the fact that the Jets are currently the lowest scorers in Australia’s top-flight.

Assessing Newcastle’s Form

Craig Deans’ men have played two games more than Perth this season, but somehow, they have only managed to score 11 goals in 13 matches.

Granted, Newcastle has kept things relatively tight at the back this season, with four teams currently possessing a poorer defensive record. But as the old saying goes – goals win games!

Following a positive five-game unbeaten streak across January and February, the Jets have now lost four matches on the spin. On a brighter note, they have managed to score in each of their last three outings. But they have conceded over 1.5 goals in all of their previous four.

Newcastle was totally humiliated by Adelaide last weekend, with the Reds racing into a 4-0 lead before the break. Apostolos Stamatelopoulos grabbed a goal back for his side in the second half, but his efforts were ultimately in vain.

The Jets will fancy their chances of exploiting Perth’s leaky backline, but outscoring the Glory won’t be easy.

Perth vs. Newcastle Betting Pick

  • Perth Glory to Win

In my eyes, the price for the home win is very attractive here. Sure, the Glory have struggled for consistency this season. But I don’t think they will struggle to get the better of Newcastle this weekend.

I’m expecting this to be a high-scoring encounter with plenty of end-to-end action. However, Perth possesses more than enough attacking firepower to inflict another defeat on the Jets.
