Perth Glory vs. Macarthur FC – A-League, May 1, 2021

Perth and Macarthur will both be eager to rediscover some form when they go head-to-head in Western Australia on Saturday, May 1.

Neither team has managed to win any of their previous four matches, with the Glory suffering three losses in that time.

The Bulls currently lead Perth by ten points on the A-League ladder, although Richard Garcia’s side boasts three games in hand over Macarthur.

Below, I discuss the bookmakers’ odds for Saturday’s clash before sharing my Perth Glory vs. Macarthur FC prediction and betting pick.

In all honesty, I wasn’t sure how the bookies would price up this game. We all know that both teams are struggling for form at the moment, making it difficult to predict what will happen on Saturday.

10bet sees Perth (2.35) as the favorite, leaving Macarthur (2.80) as the outsider. But in my opinion, this one could go either way.

I discuss both sides’ chances below.

Funnily enough, a 2-0 loss to Macarthur initiated the Glory’s recent demise. The Bulls won the reverse fixture thanks to a Matt Derbyshire double, while Perth managed just two shots on target.

The Glory’s current four-match winless run comprises one draw and three defeats, with losses to Sydney FC (1-0) and Wellington (3-1) coming alongside the defeat to Macarthur. But when you look at the bigger picture, things only get worse.

At the end of the day, Garcia’s men have only managed to win one of their previous ten games – recording six losses and three draws along the way.

Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for Perth recently.

At the other end of the pitch, it’s a completely different story. Garcia’s men have conceded 32 times this term, meaning they have the second-worst defensive record in the A-League.

Following a promising start to their maiden top-flight campaign, the Bulls are now enduring their longest winless run as an A-League outfit.

Ante Milicic’s men chalked up five wins across an impressive nine-game hot streak between February and April. However, they head into Saturday’s clash on the back of two defeats and two draws.

Having suffered back-to-back losses to Brisbane and Adelaide, Macarthur managed to hold Newcastle and Melbourne City. Last weekend’s draw with high-flying City proves that Milicic’s side can compete with the best teams in the country.

Derbyshire is enjoying an excellent debut season in Australia. The Englishman has eleven goals and three assists to his name, with two assists coming in the draw against the Jets.

The veteran striker has only managed to score one goal in his last four outings. Still, he will be licking his lips at the prospect of exploiting Perth’s leaky backline.

It is no secret that both Perth and Macarthur are in desperate need of a victory. However, only one of the two sides will be able to snap their winless run on Saturday.

Having analyzed the teams, I’m backing the Bulls to claim all three points. Neither side has been overly convincing of late, but I’m confident that Milicic’s men will be able to build on their draw with City.
