Perth Glory vs. Central Coast Mariners – A-League, Tuesday, March 15, 2022

| March 14, 2022 12:26 am PDT

The Mariners will aim to extend their unbeaten streak to three games when they visit Perth on Tuesday, March 15. On the flip side, the Glory will be looking to end a five-game winless run.

Having lost four of their previous five outings, the Western Australians find themselves rock bottom of the A-League ladder. Still, they remain just three points behind eighth-place Central Coast. The importance of this clash cannot be overstated.

Today, I will be sharing my Perth Glory vs. Central Coast Mariners prediction – along with a free betting pick for Tuesday’s showdown. First, though, let’s check out the latest odds.

Perth Glory vs. Central Coast Mariners Odds

Perth Glory to Win2.50
The Draw3.40
Central Coast Mariners to Win2.70

As you can see, the top A-League betting sites struggle to separate these two sides. Perth (2.50) is the narrow favorite, but Central Coast (2.70) isn’t far behind.

Given that both teams are battling towards the bottom end of the A-League ladder, the high price for the draw (3.40) is bound to attract plenty of attention. Let’s not forget that these sides played out a 1-1 stalemate in Gosford last month.

Before we get to my Glory vs. Mariners prediction, we need to take a closer look at the teams.

Can Perth Vacate Last Place on the A-League Ladder?

Perth heads into Tuesday’s showdown on the back of a 2-0 loss to Sydney FC. Despite racking up 65% possession and 16 shots, the Western Australians were beaten in their own backyard.

Richard Garcia’s boys have failed to win any of their last five matches, recording one draw and four losses in the process. Worse still, they have managed to win just one of their previous eight.

When you look at the bigger picture, the 2019 premiers have won only three of their 14 A-League encounters in 2021-22. They have picked up the fewest victories this season, while no team has suffered more losses.

It is worth noting that Perth boasts the second-best defensive record in the competition. Only one side – second-place Western United – has conceded fewer goals this season.

At the opposite end of the field, however, the Western Australians have the worst offensive record. Not only have they managed to score a measly 12 goals, but they have also drawn seven blanks along the way.

Despite the best efforts of Bruno Fornaroli, the Glory’s scoring record is embarrassing. Fornaroli has netted seven of Perth’s 12 goals this season, meaning he is responsible for almost 60% of his team’s strikes.

Will the Mariners Extend Their Unbeaten Streak to Three Games?

Having won three of their opening five games, the Mariners failed to win any of their next seven. A run of two draws and five defeats saw them plummet down the standings after the turn of the year.

Nick Montgomery’s men headed into March on a three-game losing streak following defeats to Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City, and Adelaide United. However, they turned things around earlier this month.

Central Coast claimed a 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar before holding Victory to a 1-1 draw last time out. But have they got what it takes to go three games unbeaten?

In Matty Simon’s absence, another A-League icon has come to the fore recently. Nicolai Muller has scored in each of the past two matches, proving his worth following his transfer from Western Sydney Wanderers in the offseason.

Unlike Perth, scoring hasn’t been a problem for the Coasties this season. But they have struggled defensively. It is worth pointing out that Central Coast has conceded six goals more than Perth.

Prediction for Perth Glory vs. Central Coast Mariners

I expect Tuesday’s clash to be a tense and cagey affair. With Central Coast sitting just three points ahead of Perth, it’s fair to say that there is not a great deal between the teams at the moment.

It is difficult to make a case for the Glory winning this one. Not only have the Western Australians failed to win any of their last five games, but they have also suffered four defeats along the way. That said, they did manage to hold the Mariners to a draw last month.

Although Montgomery’s men have upped their game of late, it will be difficult for them to win in WA. Having drawn three of their past seven outings, they look set to record another draw here.

My Perth Glory vs. Central Coast Mariners Betting Pick

  • The Draw

In my eyes, the draw is the best bet for Perth Glory vs. Central Coast Mariners. Why? Because I don’t think that either side is good enough to claim all three points on Tuesday.

I’m sure that Perth will be happy to settle for a draw after suffering four losses in five matches. The Mariners should be pleased with a draw, too, given their inconsistent form since the turn of the year.
