Perth Glory vs. Adelaide United – A-League, May 19, 2021
All of a sudden, Perth Glory is in contention for a top-six finish.
Richard Garcia’s men secured a thumping 5-1 victory over Western Syndey on Sunday, recording their third straight win in the process. They now sit just three points outside the top six and seven points behind fourth-place Adelaide.
The Reds visit HBF Park on Wednesday, May 19, aiming to build on last weekend’s victory over Brisbane. The South Australians ended a five-game winless run on Sunday, keeping themselves four points inside the top six as a result.
After looking at the odds for Wednesday’s clash, I will provide my Perth Glory vs. Adelaide United prediction and betting pick.
Perth Glory vs. Adelaide United Odds
Following a run of three consecutive victories on home soil, Perth heads into Wednesday’s game as the marginal favorite. However, the odds gap is notably narrow here.
Adelaide has been far more consistent than Perth this year, so it wouldn’t be a massive shock if the Reds upset the odds. But when you consider the recent form of the two sides, the Glory have the upper hand.
Before we get to my prediction for Perth vs. Adelaide, we need to analyze the teams.
Previewing the Match
I think the majority of A-League fans – including myself – had already written off Perth this season. After all, the Western Australians endured a run of just one win in 12 games between March and May (four draws, seven defeats).
But having won each of their previous three matches, the Glory have given themselves a genuine chance of clinching what seemed to be an unlikely Finals Series berth.
Perth’s revival began with a 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory earlier in the month. A few days later, Garcia’s side beat Western United 3-0, with Bruno Fornaroli and Chris Ikonomidis scoring in back-to-back outings.
Capping off a remarkable week, the Glory thrashed the Wanderers 5-1 on Sunday, with veteran striker Andy Keogh bagging four (yes, four!) goals.
Garcia’s men have only lost three of their 11 home games this season, registering six wins and two draws along the way. With three straight home wins behind them, they will surely fancy their chances of testing off-form Adelaide.
On the flip side, the Reds have struggled on their travels this term. In fact, they have only managed to win three of their 11 away matches in 2021, in addition to suffering six defeats.
Carl Veart’s men sealed six straight wins across February and March before picking up just a single victory in their next eight matches (four draws, three defeats). However, they were able to stop the rot last weekend.
Despite facing 14 shots, Adelaide beat Brisbane 1-0 on Sunday. Craig Goodwin netted the only goal of the game, taking his tally to six goals and five assists in 14 A-League games this year.
It is worth noting that Adelaide has already suffered two defeats to Perth this season. The Glory claimed a 5-3 home win over the Reds back in January, with a 2-1 away victory coming in February.
Veart’s men appeared to have steadied the ship earlier in the campaign, but they have now won just two of their previous nine games.
Perth vs. Adelaide Betting Pick
Perth Glory to Win2.40
It is pretty clear that Perth is relishing playing a string of matches on home soil. The wins over Victory and Western were impressive, but the crushing of WSW on Sunday was even better.
The betting sites are favoring the Glory to seal a fourth straight home win on Wednesday – and so am I! Garcia’s men have seriously upped their game recently, while the Reds have struggled for form.
