Parx Racing Picks – Wednesday, September 16, 2020

After what seemed like an endless dry spell, Parx delivers a race card filled with not only underdogs ready to win, but longshots that could actually turn a profit for us. And the weather at Parx Racing couldn’t be better for winning: Sunny, highs in the upper 70s, and mild breezes around eight mph.
After you put on your sunscreen, let’s get right to my picks and predictions for Parx Racing today.
Pick for Race 6
This is a claiming race for fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $23,000.
I’m going with the morning line in this race and buying a win ticket for the 3/1 favorite, I’m Not Joking, ridden by Jonathan Ocasio. This seven-year-old mare has the best record in the field, finishing in the money 30 of her 46 career starts and winning ten of them. Plus, she has the advantage of Ocasio’s seven-pound apprentice allowance.
The longest odds in this race are 15/1, and I don’t see anything good happening for that horse here.
- Win: I’m Not Joking 3/2
Picks for Race 8
This is a maiden special weight race for two-year-olds running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $40,000.
I agree with the morning line for this race, so my money is on the 5/2 favorite, New Hampshire, with top jockey Frankie Pennington in the irons. Like the rest of the field, this colt has no starts on record, but has performed very well in recent workouts.
There are no real long-odds entries in this race, which is good, since picking a surprise longshot would be throwing darts at a Ouija board blindfolded. Still, you may want to try a show ticket on the 10/1 Call Me G Q, ridden by newcomer Jeremy Laprida. This colt finished fourth in his two career starts, and in this field, that ain’t bad.
- Win: New Hampshire 5/2
- Show: Call Me G Q 10/1
Picks for Race 9
This is an allowance race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of seven furlongs for a purse of $40,000.
I’m going to have to give this race to Frankie Pennington’s mount, the 8/5 favorite Shanghai Superfly. This four-year-old gelding moneyed ten of his 18 career starts, winning four of them.
At 15/1, I like Thousand Percent, with Angel R. Rodriguez aboard, for a value show bet. This four-year-old gelding moneyed ten of his 20 starts, winning four of them.
- Win: Shanghai Superfly 8/5
- Show: Thousand Percent 15/1
