Parx Racing Picks – Tuesday, January 5, 2021

| January 4, 2021 12:26 pm PDT

Parx Racing brings the greater Philadelphia area a full ten-race card of maiden, starter, allowance, and claiming matches for Tuesday’s thoroughbred wagering action.

While I review three of Parx Racing’s richest races here, remember that you can find their entire ten-race card for Tuesday — including entries, jockeys, M/L odds, and wagering options — at one of our best horse racing betting sites.

Read on for my Parx Racing picks and betting tips for Tuesday, January 5.

Pick for Race 7 at Parx Racing

This is a starter allowance race for fillies and mares four years old and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $27,000.

I have to back the 2/1 morning line favorite in this race — Mabel Island, with Roberto J. Rosado in the irons. This four-year-old filly moneyed four of her eight career starts, winning three of them.

The morning line has half the entries in this eight-horse race at 12/1, but unfortunately, I don’t think any of those four will see a payday at the finish line, so save your long money for later.

  •  Win: Mabel Island 2/1

Pick for Race 8 at Parx Racing

This is a starter allowance race for four-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/8 miles for a purse of $22,000.

A case could be made for the winning prospects for each of the top four-morning line choices in this race, but I agree that the evidence is strongest for the 3/1 favorite — Terry’s Charm, ridden by Ruben Silvera. This eight-year-old gelding moneyed 38 of his 63 career starts, winning 14.

There are no long-odds entries in this race that make me suspect they’ll do anything but chase the other horses across the finish line.

  •  Win: Terry’s Charm 3/1

Pick for Race 9 at Parx Racing

This is an allowance optional claiming race for Pennsylvania-bred four-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile for a purse of $36,000.

I’m going with the second-favored (7/2) entry in this race — Dreams Untold, with Frankie Pennington in the irons. This four-year-old gelding finished in the money six of his nine career starts, winning four. It’s important to note that his three non-paying finishes were all in stakes races; he’s had no problem making money in the regular runs.

There’s only a single entry here at M/L odds longer than 8/1, but the odds on Splicethemainbrace would need to be much longer than they are (10/1) to warrant the risk of a show-wager wager, so let’s not even go there.

  •  Win: Dreams Untold 7/2

More Picks for Tuesday

Parx was very withholding in the underdogs/long-odds surprises department, so it’s lucky I found some of those at the other two tracks I reviewed for Tuesday:
