Parx Racing Picks – Tuesday, December 22, 2020

Parx Racing’s schedule for Tuesday brings us the full gamut of regular thoroughbred races, including maiden, starter, allowance, and claiming matches.
I found some underdogs with potential in the three races I reviewed at Parx but couldn’t find a long-odds contender in any of them worth the risk of a show bet.
Remember that while I review three of Parx Racing’s richest races here, you can find their entire ten-race card — including entries, jockeys, M/L odds, and wagering options — at one of our best online racebooks.
Read on for my Parx Racing picks and betting tips for Tuesday, December 22.
Pick for Race 1 at Parx Racing
This is a maiden special weight race for Pennsylvania-bred two-year-olds running a distance of seven furlongs for a purse of $34,000.
I’m sticking with the 3/1 morning line favorite in this race — Marvelous Mike, with Jeremy Laprida in the irons. This colt moneyed two of his four career starts, and it helps that his jockey is among the best at Parx.
None of the longer-odds entries in this field look to finish this race anywhere near the money.
- Win: Marvelous Mike 3/1
Pick for Race 5 at Parx Racing
This is a starter allowance race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $27,000.
I’m backing the second-favored (4/1) entry here — Kid d’Oro, with Ruben Silvera aboard. This four-year-old gelding finished in the money five of his nine career starts, winning three.
While some of the longer-odds entries performed well enough in previous years, none has a 2020 record worth a show bet, so save your long money for later.
- Win: Kid d’Oro 4/1
Pick for Race 9 at Parx Racing
This is an allowance race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of one mile and 70 yards for a purse of $45,000.
My money is on the third-favored (4/1) entry in this race — Dr Blarney, with Jaime Rodriguez in the irons. This seven-year-old gelding moneyed 28 of his 32 career starts, winning 22 of them. That’s all fine and good, you say, but what has he done lately? His 2020 record: Three money finishes in four starts, with two wins. As they say, this is a professional horse.
There’s only one horse in this race with longish morning line odds (15/1), and I don’t see him doing more than chasing all the other horses across the finish line.
- Win: Dr Blarney 4/1
