Carolina Panthers vs. Dallas Cowboys – NFL, Week 4

| October 1, 2021 7:36 am PDT

The Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys meet up in Texas in week four. This game either pushes the Panthers to a shocking 4-0 start or has both teams looking like playoff threats at 3-1.

Carolina will be going to battle without top running back Christian McCaffrey, but bettors will still want to know if they can manage the tough road win.

Dallas is riding high after a beatdown of the rival Eagles on MNF, but can they stay hot and notch their third win in a row?

Let’s find out in this Panthers vs. Cowboys prediction and pick for week four.

Odds for Panthers vs. Cowboys in Week 4

Panthers (+5)-110
Cowboys (-5)-110
Panthers to Win+190
Cowboys to Win-230
Over 50.5-110
Under 50.5-110

The Panthers are undefeated, but they’re 5-point road dogs in this spot. Part of that just has to do with playing on the road, but Dallas also looked very good in a dominant win in week three.

That, and not having your best offensive player, is kind of a big deal.

Carolina still has guys to turn to, but this could be a tricky spot, especially if the Cowboys’ defense we’ve seen the past two weeks shows up.

I wouldn’t lean too much on the ATS data when it comes to the Cowboys. They are simply at home, they’re arguably more talented, they’re trending in the right direction, and they are healthier than the Panthers.

Panthers vs. Cowboys Matchup Breakdown

Both of these offenses can ball. Dallas is in the top-10 in scoring with 30 points per game, while the Panthers have been pretty balanced, cracking the top-15 both in the run and the pass.

Dallas has been the far better rushing offense so far, though (#4), and I can’t imagine that changes here. Carolina is without their top tailback, and they’re facing what has so far been a pretty stout Cowboys front seven.

I think that has the potential to be a bit noisy given the shootout the Cowboys were in with the Bucs in week one, while Philly inexplicably gave its running backs three carries in week three.

Still, the Panthers could be facing a strong run defense without their main guy. That’s undoubtedly a potential problem.

Sam Darnold has been a brand new version of himself this year, and it’s tough to ignore it at this point.

Still, I fear he’ll be burdened with a lot of the heavy lifting offensively.

That worked out for Tom Brady in week one, but Justin Herbert and Justin Hurts were both goated into bad decisions over the last two weeks.

Carolina can sling it, of course, and Dallas hasn’t really gotten after the quarterback (31st in sack percentage) to start 2021.

Overall, the matchup still favors the ‘Boys. They’re at home, the better running team, healthier, and they’ve shown an ability to stuff the run to this point.

Panthers vs. Cowboys Prediction

The pricing is a bit wonky every which way you look at this game, but I still love the Cowboys to win.

Dallas has looked very good in every game this year. The defense had its hands full in week one, but they held a talented Chargers offense in check on the road in week two and completely embarrassed the Eagles on primetime television.

I doubt they do that to Carolina, but with no C-Mac, the Panthers will be searching for answers more than finding them in this one.

Dallas at -230 really isn’t so bad for a winning bet, so if you want a Panthers vs. Cowboys prediction that can turn into a wager, that’s one way to go.

Panthers vs. Cowboys Pick

This is a tough game to peg, seeing as the Panthers can be a totally different team when Christian McCaffrey isn’t around.

With him, the Panthers would be a very appealing upset pick and a smash play ATS. Without him, the wheels could come off here.

Dallas has momentum brewing, they’re at home, and they have the edge in the trenches. I don’t mind the Over due to all of the explosive offensive pieces, but I think the matchup greatly favors the Cowboys in the end.

It’ll be close, but I think Dallas can pull away late and cover in the end.
