Orlando City vs. New York Red Bulls – MLS, July 3, 2021
When the Red Bulls welcomed Orlando to Harrison at the end of May, the hosts claimed a 2-1 victory. The two sides meet again on Saturday, July 3, this time in Florida.
Funnily enough, that was the Lions’ only defeat this season. They have already picked up six wins and three draws in 2021 and find themselves second in the Eastern Conference – two points behind first-place New England.
On the flip side, a record of 4-1-5 sees the Red Bulls down in seventh – eight points shy of the Lions. Gerhard Struber’s men have only taken four points from a possible nine since facing Orlando, canceling a promising start to the season.
In this betting preview, I look at the bookies MLS odds, analyze the teams, and share my Orlando City vs. New York Red Bulls prediction.
Can Orlando Seal Four Straight Wins?
Oscar Pareja’s men kicked off the year with a six-game unbeaten streak, picking up three wins and three draws in the process. They also managed to achieve four shutouts along the way.
As we know, the Red Bulls ended Orlando’s hot streak in late May, although they only managed to halt it temporarily.
Since losing to RBNY, the Lions have secured three straight wins – seeing off Toronto FC (3-2), San Jose (5-0), and Inter Miami (2-1).
Having netted two goals in 161 minutes of play since returning from his European loan spell, Daryl Dike has taken Orlando’s game up a notch.
With forwards like Nani (six goals, three assists), Tesho Akindele (three goals, four assists), Benji Michel (two goals, three assists), and Chris Mueller (one goal, four assists) also in red-hot form, the Lions’ forward line is frightening.
Will the Red Bulls Return to Winning Ways?
It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Struber’s side has been one of the most inconsistent teams in Major League Soccer this term.
I mean, the Red Bulls have claimed some notable scalps over the past couple of months. As well as beating Orlando, they have gotten the better of Chicago (2-0), Toronto (2-0), and Nashville (2-0) this season.
Scoring goals hasn’t been an issue. In fact, the Red Bulls are the fifth-highest scorers in the East. But having conceded 13 goals, they also have the fifth-worst defensive record in the conference.
After losing 3-2 to New England, RBNY was held to a goalless draw by Atlanta United last time out. Struber will be looking for a response from his players on Saturday.
Orlando City vs. New York Red Bulls Odds
All the leading online sportsbooks favor Orlando City (1.73) to win this one, leaving the Red Bulls (4.40) as the rank outsiders.
I have also included some goal-based markets here, as both sides have been involved in several high-scoring matches recently.
My Orlando vs. Red Bulls Betting Picks
- Pick: Orlando City to Win – 1.73
Yes, RBNY beat Orlando a few weeks back. But the Lions have been on a winning rampage since then. Not only have they won each of their previous three games, but they have also scored ten goals along the way.
- Bonus Pick: Over 2.5 Goals – 1.70
Half of the Red Bulls’ games have produced over 2.5 goals this season, while each of Orlando’s last four matches has dished up at least three goals. In my opinion, backing over 2.5 goals on Saturday is a no-brainer.
