Orlando City vs. New York City – MLS, October 14, 2020

| October 12, 2020 10:58 am PDT

It’s fourth vs. fifth in the Eastern Conference this week as Orlando City welcomes New York City to Exploria Stadium on Wednesday, October 14.

Orlando currently has a four-point lead and a game in hand over the Boys in Blue, although both sides have eight regular-season wins to their name this year. The Lions head into this clash on a seemingly unstoppable ten-game unbeaten streak, while NYC’s three-game winning run was brought to end by New England Revolution on Sunday.

Orlando City vs. New York City Odds

Orlando City to Win 2.15
The Draw 3.60
New York City to Win 2.90

The top online soccer betting sites view Orlando (2.15) as the frontrunner to claim all three points on Wednesday, and despite New York City’s (2.90) recent resurgence, it’s difficult to argue with the bookies’ viewpoint.

The Lions will feel they can beat anyone at the moment, but the high price for the home win indicates that NYC is likely to cause the Florida club some problems.

Orlando City vs. New York City Preview

Despite having their previous game postponed, Orlando is still firmly in control of their play-off bid. A ten-game unbeaten run has seen the Lions cement fourth place in the Eastern Conference, and they are still in contention for the Supporters’ Shield.

Given that Oscar Pareja’s men are the second-highest scorers in the division, Orlando’s attacking players must be given credit for the club’s current league position. With four goals and five assists to his name, Chris Mueller is leading the way, while former Manchester United star Nani has also been hugely influential.

But it is important to remember that Orlando also boasts one of the strongest defensive records in the division. Indeed, the Lions have played 11 games since reaching the final of the MLS is Back Tournament, and they have only conceded over 1.5 goals on one occasion in that time.

Having said that, New York City’s backline has also been watertight this year. Sure, the Boys in Blue may not have scored as many goals as the Lions. But the fact they have conceded one less goal than Orlando speak volumes about the team’s organization.

NYC has managed two three-game winning streaks since the regular season resumed. Ronney Deila’s men saw off Columbus Crew, Chicago Fire, and New England earlier in the campaign before beating Cincinnati, Inter Miami, and DC United more recently.

The New York club’s latest winning run was snapped by the Revs on Sunday, although it’s fair to say that Deila’s men deserved to get something from their previous outing. NYC racked up 67% possession and 16 shots last time out, but they eventually lost 2-1.

Orlando City vs. New York City Betting Pick

  • The Draw

These two sides have been fairly evenly matched throughout the campaign. Both teams have picked up consistent points this year, so it is no coincidence they find themselves heading for a play-off place.

Given NYC’s strength, Orlando’s ten-game unbeaten run is definitely in jeopardy. But I’m confident the Lions will avoid defeat on Wednesday. In my eyes, the draw is the most likely outcome for this clash.
