Orlando City vs. Atlanta United Betting – MLS, October 28, 2020

Orlando City’s remarkable 12-game unbeaten streak was finally brought to an end by Inter Miami last time out, but the Lions still remain six points inside the top six and firmly in control of their MLS Cup bid.

On Wednesday, October 28, Atlanta United travels to Exploria Stadium. A dismal five-game winless run has seen the Five Stripes fall to twelfth in the Eastern Conference – 13 points behind Orlando.

I’m really not surprised to see the low price for the Orlando win (1.66) here. If anything, the sportsbooks would have upped the odds for the home win slightly following the Lions’ defeat in the Florida Derby at the weekend.

Atlanta (4.50) has been nothing short of dreadful all year, so even the price for the draw (4.00) looks unappealing.

It looked as though Orlando was going to see out the regular season on a lengthy unbeaten run. Oscar Pareja’s men have been unstoppable in recent weeks, but their hot streak was ended by the only team that has managed to beat them since the MLS is Back Tournament.

Inter Miami beat Orlando all the way back in August, but the Lions didn’t taste defeat in their next 12 games. Six wins and six draws have secured the team a spot in the play-offs, but their Florida rivals came back to haunt them again last weekend.

Daryl Dike netted his fifth goal of the campaign to give Orlando an early lead against the Herons before Robin Jansson scored an own goal on the stroke of half-time. Leandro Gonzalez Pirez then struck in the 89^th minute to hand Inter Miami a last-gasp victory.

Still, having destroyed almost everything in their path over the past couple of months, Orlando will be confident of returning to winning ways in quick fashion.

Atlanta has actually managed to hold Orlando to two draws this year, although the Georgia club lost their other encounter with the Lions 3-1 back in August. The Five Stripes have put up a decent fight against the Lions this year, but they remain winless in this fixture in 2020.

In fact, a goalless draw with Orlando at the beginning of October kicked off a five-game winless run for Atlanta. Stephen Glass’ men have since suffered losses to New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC, although last weekend’s defeat to bottom-club DC United is by far the most humiliating.

Jon Gallagher thought he’d snatched a point for Atlanta with a goal on 89 minutes, only for Gelmin Rivas to steal a stoppage-time victory for DC. That pretty much sums up Atlanta’s season, right?

It feels like Orlando City and Atlanta United have traded places this year. The Lions have established themselves as a genuine force in MLS, while the Five Stripes have failed to gather any sort of momentum throughout the campaign.
