Odds and Best Bets for the 2020 Scottish Championship

We’re just a few steps east of the home of golf for the inaugural Scottish Championship. This marks the second time in three weeks the European Tour is hosting an event in Scotland.

The Torrance Course at Fairmont St Andrews is no slouch in its own right and will undoubtedly present a stiff test as bleak temperatures are on the horizon.

Let’s start with the odds as we work our way toward a Scottish Championship prediction.

Coming off four red numbers at the BMW PGA Championship, Lee Westwood finds himself atop this week’s betting sheet. He’s joined by Matt Wallace – another Englishman who showed good form last time out at Wentworth (T24).

Aaron Rai missed the cut at the tour’s flagship event, although his victory at the Renaissance Club the prior week cannot be dismissed.

A tie for 58^th at Wentworth is far from encouraging, I know. However, that result isn’t the be-all-and-end-all when it comes to pulling the trigger on Robert MacIntyre. Those who don’t fancy Robert MacIntyre’s chances but want to invest in a Scotsman, why not Richie Ramsay lurking at +4000? The 37-year-old Edinburgh resident drove the ball beautifully last week at the BMW PGA Championship – ultimately cracking the top-20 on the final leaderboard.

Not only was Ramsay threading the needle off of the tees at Wentworth; he also leads the European Tour in scrambling this season.

Listed at +2200 at many of the top sites, MyBookie has Renato Paratore hanging out at +2500. That’s enough motivation for me to jump on the talented Italian golfer as my Scottish Championship pick.

Already with two European Tour wins on his resume, don’t take your eye off of this 23-year-old or else you’ll probably miss his swing.

I’ve noticed Renato tends to play his best golf in bunches, which is why I’m keen on seeing how he follows up his T7 at Wentworth.
