Novak Djokovic vs. Daniil Medvedev Pick – ATP Tour Finals, November 18, 2020

| November 17, 2020 2:14 am PDT

Both Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev started the Nitto ATP Tour Finals with a win, so another victory on Wednesday will likely result in a place in the next stage of the competition.

The stakes are high and both men are in excellent shape, so I expect an entertaining second-round clash between them. The world number one enters the match as the favorite, but I’m sure that his opponent won’t go down without a fight.

I explain why in this Novak Djokovic vs. Daniil Medvedev betting preview that includes the latest odds and lines, my prediction, and a free betting pick.

Novak Djokovic Recent Form

There were some doubts over Novak Djokovic’s form after a disappointing performance in the Vienna Open. The Serbian quickly put them to bed with a convincing win over Diego Schwartzman in the opening clash of the Nitto ATP Tour Finals 2020.

The world number one was at his best against the Argentinian and that was a statement for the rest of the field. Djokovic is here to win and we shouldn’t forget that he has five titles from this competition, only one short of Roger Federer.

The Serbian star loves the hard courts of London and he will be eager to secure an early progression to the next stage in the clash against Medvedev. Djokovic has a 4-2 advantage in the head-to-head history of the rivalry, but the Russian won two of the last three meetings.

Daniil Medvedev Recent Form

I expected a close match between Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev, but the Russian destroyed his opponent. His confidence is sky-high after the ATP 1000 title in Paris and he even had the audacity to deliver an underarm serve!

It’s obvious that Medvedev loves to play on indoor hard courts in the winter, as he was unstoppable around the same time in 2019. The youngster feels equally comfortable serving and receiving.

He stays aggressive and he doesn’t lose momentum in the rare moments when he makes a mistake. Novak Djokovic might be a tough opponent, but Medvedev can beat anyone in the world when he’s playing like that.

Djokovic vs. Medvedev Pick

I can’t wait for this match and I expect an epic clash between two of the best tennis players right now. I believe it will be much closer than the odds suggest and I’m torn between two wagers. The price of +185 for Medvedev to beat Djokovic certainly is tempting, but the -118 for over 22.5 might be better.

The line could be covered even in two close sets and I won’t be surprised to see three on Wednesday, so that’s my final betting pick.
