Nice vs. Nantes Betting Preview – Ligue 1, October 3, 2020

| September 29, 2020 1:10 pm PDT

Nice welcomes Nantes to the Allianz Riviera on Saturday, October 3, with both sides in desperate need of three points. The Eagles won their opening two games but have failed to win any of their previous three, while the Canaries have only managed to win one of their five games this season.

Just two points separate tenth-place Nice and fifteenth-place Nantes in the Ligue 1 standings, and although it is still early days, both teams will no doubt be eager to move into the top half of the table this weekend.

Read on to see my Nice vs. Nantes prediction and betting pick.

Nice vs. Nantes Odds

Nice to Win2.35
The Draw3.15
Nantes to Win3.00

There is no denying that Nice is the stronger team in this matchup, but Patrick Vieira’s side hasn’t exactly shown that so far this term. The top online soccer betting sites rightfully view Nice as the favorite to win this game, but the bookies are still giving Nantes a decent chance.

The odds for both the home and away win are pretty high here, and that suggests that this is a tough game to call. Nevertheless, I attempt to foresee the outcome of this clash below.

Match Preview

After finishing fifth last season, many believed that Nice was ready to challenge the country’s top teams this term. Sure, the Eagles got off to a strong start, beating Lens and Strasbourg in their opening two games. But it’s been all downhill since then.

Nice suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat to Montpellier on Matchday 3 before being completely outclassed by PSG the following weekend. Vieira’s men managed to stop the run of losses by securing a goalless draw with Bordeaux last time out, but they could have easily lost that game, too.

The south coast side obviously has issues at both ends of the pitch. Conceding three goals to PSG is tolerable, but letting in three against Montpellier far from acceptable. Amine Gouiri (2) and Kasper Dolberg (2) have scored four of Nice’s five goals this season, with center-back Dante the only other contributor.

Nantes has also scored five and conceded seven this term, although the Brittany club sits two points behind Nice in the table. The Canaries’ sole victory came against Nimes on Matchday 2, while draws with Bordeaux and St-Etienne have just about kept them afloat.

However, against the top teams in the division, Nantes clearly struggles. Christian Gourcuff’s side was outplayed by Monaco on Matchday 3 before being comfortably beaten by Lille last time out.

Of course, the Canaries would not have wanted to be two points above the relegation zone after five games. But they still have plenty of time to turn things around. A win could lift Nantes into the top half this weekend, although a defeat could see the club drop into the bottom three.

Nice vs. Nantes Pick

  • Nice to Win

Considering that Nice is playing at home and Nantes is struggling at the moment, I believe odds of 2.35 for the home win should be taken advantage of. Yes, the Eagles have problems of their own. But Nice is undoubtedly stronger than Nantes.

After such a strong start, I can’t see Nice going four games without a win. I’m expecting Vieira’s men to rediscover their form and return to winning ways this weekend.
