Picks and Predictions for NHL Games – March 17th, 2022
Hopefully you caught us yesterday, because we didn’t get a single prediction wrong in all 4 games. We did however get a push, but I will take 3/3 picks any day of the week.
For today, we have a way bigger slate with 10 games. Let’s try to repeat our success from yesterday and get ourselves a nice little streak going. We might not have a 100% success rate like yesterday, but we can still build our betting accounts one day at a time.
First things first, let’s take a look at all the odds for today to see what stands out.
NHL Odds for Thursday, March 17th
- Hurricanes (-120) vs. Maple Leafs (EVEN), O/U 6
- Predators (-165) vs. Flyers (+145), O/U 6
- Stars (-175) vs. Canadiens (+155), O/U 6
- Capitals (-200) vs. Blue Jackets (+170), O/U 6.5
- Islanders (+120) vs. Rangers (-140), O/U 5.5
- Penguins (-115) vs. Blues (-105), O/U 6
- Sabres (+210) vs. Oilers (-250), O/U 6.5

- Red Wings (+165) vs. Canucks (-190), O/U 6
- Panthers (-180) vs. Golden Knights (+160), O/U 6.6
These are all the odds for today’s games from BetUS. If you see a certain team’s price that you like, make sure to head over there to place your bets.
If you are still undecided, let’s break the odds down and make some predictions for today’s games.
Right off the bat we have a top tier matchup with the Hurricanes taking on the Maple Leafs. Both of these teams are top 3 in their division, with the Hurricanes in 1st (Metropolitan) and the Maple Leafs in 3rd (Atlantic).
The Penguins and Blues are clashing head to head today as well, which should be a great game.
If you’re looking for a lot of action, then you should look out for the Washington Capitals vs. Columbus Blue Jackets game and the Buffalo Sabres vs. Edmonton Oilers game.
Both of them are at 6.5 for the total goals scored, so expect a lot of action in those games.
With that being said, below are my predictions for today’s NHL slate.
Top NHL Predictions for March 17th
- Hurricanes Over Maple Leafs
- Predators Over Flyers
- Stars Over Canadiens
- Capitals Over Blue Jackets
- Rangers Over Islanders
- Blues Over Penguins
- Oilers Over Sabres
- Kings Over Sharks
- Canucks Over Red Wings
- Panthers Over Golden Knights
I’m going to ride with the more reliable Hurricanes in the first game. Leafs’ goalie Jack Campbell is still banged up, forcing them to go to 4th stringer Erik Kallgren. Kallgren is actually coming off a 35 save shutout against Dallas Tuesday, but he could be risky to rely on with such a small sample size (3rd career game).
The Flyers have dropped 3 in a row. Nashville will be looking to make it 3 wins in a row for themselves by taking care of Philadelphia on the road.
Although the Stars have struggled on the road (12-15-2), I think they can get the win tonight over a struggling Montreal team (16-36-8).
The Blue Jackets are on a back to back and play one of the best road teams in the league in the Capitals (18-7-5). That should give the edge to Washington, but it should be a close game.

The New York teams are clashing head to head tonight. I’ll give the edge to the Rangers with Shesterkin expected to be in the net tonight. The Rangers are an impressive 20-5-3 at home, but the Islanders play in the same state so not as massive of an advantage tonight.
Blues are well rested for today’s game, being off 3 days in a row. Pittsburgh will be tough, but they should still have the edge.
I also have the Oilers, Kings, and Canucks winning their games at home tonight.
Vegas has dropped 5 in a row and plays one of the best NHL teams in the Panthers tonight.
Best Bets for the NHL Games on 3/17/2022
- Predators vs. Flyers Over 6 Goals (-110)
- Capitals vs. Blue Jackets Over 6.5 Goals (-110)
- New York Rangers to Win (-140)
- Vancouver Canucks to Win (-190)
That brings us to our top bets for today to place on the best NHL betting sites.
Firstly, I like the Predators and Flyers game to hit the over. It’s set at an even 6, so we get some extra security with a push if it’s directly on 6. With that being said, the Predators’ over has been on fire in their last 10 road games.
The over has hit in 9 of their last 10 games on the road, which could mean tonight has a strong chance to do so again.
I love another over bet, but this time it is between the Capitals and the Blue Jackets. Columbus games have hit the over in more games than any other NHL team (38 out of 60 games). The Capitals are another heavy over team with 34 of their 60 games hitting as well.
Both of these teams have been scoring at a high rate recently too. The Capitals have hit the over in their team total in 9 of their last 10 games, while the Blue Jackets are right behind them at 8 of their last 10.
The Rangers will declare themselves the champions of New York for tonight in their battle with the Islanders. They are the home team despite playing in the same city. Their home record is nasty at 20-5-3, while the Islanders are 10-12-5 for their away games.
