Picks and Best Bets for the NHL Games – Thursday, February 24th, 2022
Welcome back for another day of NHL betting. We have 8 games on top for today, so let’s try and build our bank accounts for the weekend.
There are a good mix of games for today. We should have some high scoring and low scoring affairs, as well as close games and not so close games. The Florida Panthers and Pittsburgh Penguins are two massive favorites to win today, but crazier things have happened.
Let’s dive into the odds for today and start shaping our betting sheets.
NHL Odds for Thursday, February 24th
- Wild (+120) vs. Maple Leafs (-140), O/U 6.5
- Capitals (-105) vs. Rangers (-115), O/U 6
- Blue Jackets vs. Panthers (-470), O/U 7
- Devils (+245) vs. Penguins (-285), O/U 6.5
- Stars (+130) vs. Predators (-150), O/U 5.5
- Flames (-160) vs. Canucks (+140), O/U 5.5
- Bruins (-220) vs. Kraken (+180), O/U 5.5
- Islanders (-130) vs. Sharks (+110), O/U 5.5
There are 4 games with the puck drop happening at 7:00 p.m ET. The next game will be at 8:30 p.m ET (Dallas vs. Nashville), while the rest finish at 10:00 and 10:30 p.m ET.
If you already know which game you have an eye on for today, head over to BetUS for these exact odds to bet on.
If you aren’t sure yet, that’s fine too as I will help you along. We have some very great games for today’s NHL slate.
We also have the NHL’s hottest team (literally) playing today in the Calgary Flames. They have a massive 10 game winning streak and are facing the team that they beat to start the streak in Vancouver.
It would be rather poetic for the team who started the streak for the Flames would be the one to end it, but that won’t be exactly easy.
We have lots of more NHL action that should make for a great day of betting. Let’s take a look at my predictions for today’s games.
Expert NHL Predictions for Thursday
- Minnesota Over Toronto
- New York (Rangers) Over Washington
- Florida Over Columbus
- Pittsburgh Over New Jersey
- Dallas vs. Nashville Over 5.5 Goals
- Calgary vs. Vancouver Under 5.5 Goals
- Boston Over Seattle
- New York (Islanders) vs. San Jose Under 5.5 Goals
The only “easy” picks for today are the Panthers to beat the Blue Jackets and the Penguins to beat the Devils. Other than that, these games are wide open and can go in any direction.
I really like the Wild as an underdog today. Toronto is as tough as they come, but Minnesota has a couple reasons why they can win this game. Kaapo Kahkonen should be in net for the Wild, while the Leafs should be going with Petr Mrazek.
#mnwild goalie Kaapo Kahkonen is now 8-1-1 in his last 10 starts with a 2.47 GAA and a .930 SV% since Jan. 6. Since entering the NHL in 2019-20, he ranks first amongst NHL rookies in wins (31) and has surpassed Pekka Rinne for most wins by a Finnish-born rookie goaltender.— Minnesota Wild PR (@mnwildPR) February 21, 2022
Mrazek has struggled recently, while Kahkonen has been very solid. The power play and penalty minutes are heavily in the Leafs favor, but there is value here for the Wild.
You can take the Wild’s puck line (+1.5, -190) to play it more safely, or even over 2.5 team goals (-150).
I also like the over in the Dallas and Nashville game. Juuse Saros gave up 4 goals to the Stars his last time against them, while Dallas will deploy Braden Holtby in net today. Nashville is coming off a huge win over the Florida Panthers, so they can look to stay hot against Dallas.
Calgary beat the Canucks in their last game, but it was as low scoring as it gets. They won 1-0 in overtime, so scoring 6 combined goals today seems a little out there.
Best Bets for the NHL Games on 2/24/2022
- Minnesota Wild Over 2.5 Team Goals (-150)
- Pittsburgh Penguins -1.5 (-130)
- Vancouver Canucks Under 2.5 Team Goals (-125)
- Islanders vs. Sharks Under 5.5 Goals (-125)
These are my best bets of the day. I love the Wild’s underdog moneyline, but Toronto is a very tough team to go against. It should be very possible for them to rattle off three goals today with Mzarek in net, who allows 3.16 goals per game and allowed 5 in his last game (vs. Montreal).
Pittsburgh shouldn’t have any trouble with New Jersey today. They has a 31-21 record against the spread, while New Jersey is 17-33. Pittsburgh being at home means they have an even bigger advantage in that department as well.
They also have the 3rd best penalty kill percentage.
Vancouver has the 25th ranked offense in the NHL, so it seems like a big ask for them to get 3 goals against the best defensive team in the league.
Another low scoring affair should be the Islanders vs. Sharks game. These two teams rank very poorly in goals per game (New York 29th, San Jose tied for 23rd), while New York has the fifth best defense in the NHL.
No other team hits the under in their games more often than the Rangers, who go under in 63.8% of their games.
Feel free to combine a few picks for some better odds, or parlay them all together if you’re feeling risky. Best of luck and make sure you place your bets on the best NHL betting sites.
