NFL DFS Sleeper Picks to Target in Week 3 of the 2021 Season

Last week wasn’t a good one for my NFL DFS sleeper picks. Teddy Bridgewater was a fantastic play at his price, but my other plays didn’t pan out.
It’s onward and upward in week three, as there should be some solid value plays worth targeting at the top NFL DFS sites.
I’ll point out my top salary saver at each position. Let’s break down my top week three NFL DFS sleepers.
Justin Fields, QB, Bears ($5.2k)
There are a few viable quarterback sleepers due to injuries, but the top option has to be Fields.
He scored a rushing touchdown in week one, and last week he got a little work with Andy Dalton banged up.
Now it looks like Dalton is at least out for this week.
With a strong week three effort, Fields could take over the Chicago gig under center full-time.
His accuracy and decision-making will be called into question, but his rushing upside makes him a steal at this price.
A date with the Browns is a mixed bag, but so far Cleveland is giving up the 3rd most fantasy points to quarterbacks.
At this price, Fields may be the chalk in week three, and I don’t think you should care.
Jake Funk, RB, Rams ($4k)
Speaking of opportunity, Funk could find himself with some touches for the first time in his career in week three.
Nick Sterling had Darrell Henderson in his week three fantasy football start and sit column, and he was of the “sit” variety. Part of that was due to a brutal matchup with a strong Buccaneers defense, but he’s also not 100%.
With Henderson potentially out, the Rams’ backfield is down to Sony Michel and Jake Funk.
Barring some major change, Funk could at least be on the field more as a receiver out of the backfield, while the high-level athlete may garner some rushing attempts, as well.
The matchup is bad, but at the bare minimum for DK running backs, Funk may need to be in your player pool. After all, if he’s featured, he’d be in one of the best games of the week.
Dyami Brown, Wr, Washington ($3.6k)
There aren’t that many wide receivers I want to punt with these days. DraftKings had super soft pricing in week one, but the site has largely adapted.
Brown still may be too cheap, as the Washington offense is without Curtis Samuel, and it’s pretty arguable Terry McClaurin will have his hands full trying to break free from Tre’Davious White’s coverage.
That could lead to more work for Brown, who already saw a role increase last week.
- 6 targets
- 3 catches
- 34 receiving yards
This week Brown faces the Bills, who will have their hands full with Washington’s running back, as well as Scary Terry.
With Washington likely playing from behind, the explosive Brown (4.45 40 time) could be busier than usual, and at a low cost to you.
Mike Gesicki, TE, Dolphins ($3.8k)
This isn’t really the week to punt tight end. Kyle Pitts is one of the best plays on the board, so he’s likely as low as I’ll go. It’s either him, Travis Kelce, or Darren Waller for me in week three.
That said, you might not like the build paying for those guys gets you. Perhaps you prefer a little extra salary, and saving at tight end makes sense.
Gesicki’s 2021 has been a forgettable one to this point, but we know three things (probably); he can score touchdowns, Jacoby Brissett likes his tight ends, and Miami has a palatable matchup with the Raiders in week three.
It doesn’t feel amazing, but one touchdown would probably make Gesick worth a roll of the dice.
Tennessee Titans Defense ($2.4k)
Lastly, I think you can get away with punting your defense this week. That may often be the case, but the trick is figuring out which cheap defense will actually pan out.
For week three, it may be the Titans.
Carson Wentz has injuries to both of his ankles, and I can’t imagine he suits up. Even if he does, he won’t be 100%. Either way, I love the Titans at this price point.
Week 3 Daily Fantasy Football Advice
My week three NFL DFS sleepers are considerably bolder than last week, but you do often have to consider scraping the bottom of the barrel in daily fantasy football.
The biggest reach may be Funk, as it’s still possible Darrell Henderson plays.
However, as things stand, all of these guys could potentially be very useful in NFL DFS lineups in week three.
Overall, I’d still follow the week three NFL betting lines, pay attention to matchups, monitor ownership projections, and trust your gut.
