Newcastle United vs. West Ham United – English Premier League, April 17, 2021
It has come to that stage of the season when we begin to see some strange results. Teams that had previously looked woeful start winning games and upsetting the odds.
Newcastle will be hoping that trend continues on Saturday but will find a Champions League-chasing West Ham a tough opponent.
Newcastle United vs. West Ham United Odds
The bookmakers have made West Ham the favorite to come away from the northeast with three more points to go towards its Champions League cause.
No surprise there, but there will be some that fancy Newcastle to surprise the Londoners as it attempts to secure Premier League status for at least another season.
Assessing the Teams
Steve Bruce was able to call on his star players to save the day last weekend at Burnley. It had been a tough few weeks without the likes of Saint-Maximin and Wilson, but they combined well together, and the Magpies were able to pick up three crucial points as the relegation battle enters its final few months.
The Newcastle manager will probably be without influential captain James Lascelles for this one – and that could form a big hole in the home side’s defense as it goes all out for three more points.
West Ham has far loftier goals in mind and is still very much in the running for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification. The 3-2 win over Leicester last week showed that the Hammers mean business – even if two late goals for the Foxes raised the blood pressure of David Moyes and the home fans once again.
Moyes was missing Declan Rice for that game – and the England international will probably miss out here as well. He is a big player to replace, but Mark Noble showed that he still has just about enough left in reserve to deputize and lead his club to the Champions League’s riches. He should help win another three points here, too.
Newcastle vs. West Ham Prediction and Pick
West Ham United to Win-102
After Newcastle’s surprise win at Burnley last week – and the draw with Spurs the week before – it does look as though Steve Bruce’s side will put up a fight against relegation at least. But Lascelles’ injury is a big blow, and West Ham has grand designs of its own.
The away win bet seems like the one to go with here.
