The panic button seems already to have been pressed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he attempts to prove that he is the man for the job at Old Trafford. Some late transfer window signings certainly raised a few eyebrows.

Now he must take his team to face a Newcastle side that has not been playing particularly well but has still managed to record some good results in the early weeks of the season.

Steve Bruce doesn’t tend to beat his former club, whoever he is managing at the time, but this Newcastle team must stand a chance on Saturday. The bookmakers still think that Manchester United’s expensive squad will come away with all three points – but the odds for the draw should probably be investigated here.

Assessing the Teams

Newcastle, as a club, has been the epitome of chaos for quite a while now so the signings made in the summer looked remarkably well-thought-out and suggested that this season may be different at St James’ Park. The performances so far have not been without errors – but things do seem to be looking up at the moment.

The addition of Callum Wilson up front looks to be an outstanding piece of business for the club. He has scored four in as many games and has been aided by fellow new boy Jeff Hendrick in midfield. Allan Saint-Maxim has fast become a fans’ favorite as well – and they could all pose a few problems for Manchester United on Saturday.

The Old Trafford club could provide debuts for a number of new players of its own, as it looks to come back from the embarrassing 6-1 home defeat to Spurs just before the international break. Although Edison Cavani could be an excellent signing for the club, a veteran striker was not really the priority – and the form of fellow new boy Alex Telles will be more important to the team.

He should be able to help out in what has become an error-strewn back line and the club might have been more inclined to look into signing more central defenders than attacking players. A lot of money has already been spent on the likes of Harry Maguire and it is not clear at the moment as to whether it has been a wise investment.

Newcastle United vs. Manchester United Pick

  • The Draw

This English Premier League season has already thrown up some incredible results and, although the goal count will surely settle down at some point, there is no reason to believe that we won’t see a few more at St James’ Park this weekend. Both defenses are suspect and there are a few players on both sides that will enjoy exploiting any mistakes. This could end up being a very satisfying high-scoring draw.
