Newcastle United vs. Manchester City – English Premier League, May 14, 2021

Newly crowned Manchester City travels north to take on Newcastle on Friday, which means very little to either club involved.

Newcastle’s recent good form – and a string of defeats for Fulham – means that Steve Bruce’s side is safe with three games of the season still to play. There could be a relaxed feel to this encounter.

Manchester City to Win-357

MyBookie seems to have priced this game as if there was something still riding on the outcome. With City winning the league and Newcastle definitely staying up, the enthusiasm levels may be far lower than the bookmaker thinks. City should still win the game, but the odds for the draw, are at least tempting.

Newcastle United vs. Manchester City Match Preview

In the end, it was the inability of West Brom and Fulham to win games that ensured Newcastle would be playing in the Premier League next season. But just two defeats in the last ten games from the Magpies have also played their part. The thrashing of Leicester last Friday showed how well the team could play when everyone is fit and healthy.

There has been nowhere near enough attitude shown in the game this season. Bruce will need to make sure that his side can be more consistent next year if they want to avoid going through the same relegation worry again. Callum Wilson is injured again now, and with the club’s EPL status assured, this might not be a classic Newcastle performance on Friday.

Manchester City’s players might not be in top form either, though. With Manchester United losing to Leicester on Tuesday, the Premier League crown was officially passed over to Pep Guardiola’s team, and he may be fine with his squad taking it a little easier.

There is the Champions League final at the end of the month to think about after all.

City actually lost to Chelsea at the weekend in a rehearsal for that prestigious event. While Pep didn’t select his first-choice eleven, it was still able to compete. We might even see the City boss playing around with his line-ups and formations in the coming weeks as he prepares for the biggest game in the European calendar.

Newcastle United vs. Manchester City Betting Pick

  • Manchester City to Win

I am under no illusions about City being not as bothered about the result here on Friday. With a much bigger game coming up, it is understandable if the players preserve their energy and bodies against Newcastle. But, with the home side also in end-of-season mode, I still think that the talent of the City side will win.
