New York Red Bulls vs. Philadelphia Union – MLS, July 8, 2021

| July 7, 2021 9:55 am PDT

The Union’s seemingly unstoppable unbeaten run was snapped by Nashville last weekend, with the hot streak coming to an end at the eight-game mark (five wins, three draws).

Next up, Jim Curtin’s men travel to Red Bull Arena on Thursday, July 8, hoping to extend the three-point gap between them and RBNY in the Eastern Conference.

The Red Bulls secured an impressive victory over high-flying Orlando last time out, meaning they have won five of their previous nine matches. Can they notch back-to-back wins for the third time this season?

After discussing the MLS odds and analyzing both sides, I will share my New York Red Bulls vs. Philadelphia Union prediction and betting pick.

Red Bulls vs. Philadelphia Odds

New York Red Bulls to Win2.15
The Draw3.40
Philadelphia Union to Win3.15

Having won four of their five home games this year, the Red Bulls (2.15) head into Thursday’s clash as favorites with all the online sportsbooks. That said, the price for the home win is notably high here.

Considering that Philadelphia (3.15) currently sits three points clear of RBNY in the standings, the tasty odds for the away win are definitely worth considering.

Can RBNY Claim Back-to-Back Victories?

Despite seeing just 44% possession last time out, the Red Bulls were able to take down in-form Orlando at Exploria Stadium. In fact, Gerhard Struber’s men racked up 18 shots on Saturday, while Lions only managed 13.

Cristian Casseres netted his fourth goal of the season to open the scoring inside six minutes before Fabio took his tally to two goals and five assists by bagging the winner.

Still, a record of 5-1-5 underlines the Red Bulls inconsistency this year. Although they have claimed some notable scalps in 2021, they have also lost more games than eight teams in the East.

With 16 goals to their name, Struber’s men are the fifth-highest scorers in the division. However, they hold one of the poorest defensive records in the conference, having conceded 14 goals in 11 matches.

It goes without saying that Struber will be eager for his players to establish a rhythm before long.

Will Philly Return to Winning Ways?

On the topic of rhythms, it’s safe to say that Curtin’s men found their groove across the past couple of months. Between May 8 and June 26, Philadelphia picked up five wins and three draws without suffering a defeat.

But when the Union visited Nashville last weekend, their unbeaten streak came to an end.

After just two minutes in Tennessee, Philly conceded and failed to find a way back, despite having the entire game to respond.

Even with Kacper Przybylko leading the line, the U could not find the back of the net.

Still, the defending Supporters’ Shield champions will surely be pleased with how the 2021 campaign is panning out. Boasting a record of 5-4-1, they currently find themselves third in the East – five points shy of first-place New England.

Red Bulls vs. Philadelphia Betting Pick

  • The Draw

The draw is the best bet for New York Red Bulls vs. Philadelphia Union. With just three points between the teams in the standings, there isn’t much to separate them at the moment.

Although the Red Bulls will be on a high after overcoming Orlando last weekend, Philly has more than enough quality to hold out for a draw on Thursday.
